Registration required This month's speaker: Eric Witchey.  Topic: Fluency Connecting Character to Meaning Award-winning writer Eric Witchey will lead this seminar on how to connect your characters to the deeper meaning of your story to deliver a profound feeling of significance to your readers. We have all read stories that leave us feeling like the experience meant more than the sum of the words on the page. Those are the stories that stay with us, haunt us, and give us the need to talk to others about what we read. Such stories are more than a mere sequence of interesting events that demonstrate superficial change in character. In such stories, the changes and challenges the character experiences are intrinsically connected to an underlying meaning that affects the reader emotionally, psychologically, and socially. Participants will walk away with several specific tools for planning and revision. Mr. Witchey will also provide a handout to allow review of the seminar content when participants return home.

Our June selection is Book and Dagger by Elise Graham. Check in library for set aside copies (while supplies last).  Non-Fiction. The untold story of the academics who became OSS spies, invented modern spycraft, and helped turn the tide of the war At the start of WWII, the US found itself in desperate need of an intelligence agency. The Office of Strategic Services (OSS), a precursor to today's CIA, was quickly formed--and, in an effort to fill its ranks with experts, the OSS turned to academia for recruits. Suddenly, literature professors, librarians, and historians were training to perform undercover operations and investigative work--and these surprising spies would go on to profoundly shape both the course of the war and our cultural institutions with their efforts. The author draws on personal histories, diaries, and declassified OSS files to tell the story of a small but connected group of humanities scholars turned unlikely spies.

Registration is requested to ensure we have enough chairs.  Please join us for this all ages Spring Concert with the Intel Singers. The group will perform songs ranging from "Il Est Bel et Bon" by Pierre Passereau to "Fields of Gold" by GM Sumner.  The Intel Singers have been together for 27 years. They are a combination of Intel Employees, Retirees, Contract Workers and family members. They have a great time rehearsing in the corporate conference rooms at Intel during the lunch hour, and always return to work feeling refreshed and renewed. We are proud to announce Bernie Kuehn, founding director of the Oregon Chorale, will be guest conducting three pieces with the Intel Singers this season.

Registration is required. Please register at the Repair Fair's website. A skilled volunteer will help you figure out what’s broken and possibly fix your broken household items – small appliances, electronics, computers, mobile devices – and more. They may also teach you how to fix your item. Learning how to fix and maintain your items is essential for Repair Fair events. Even if a repair is not possible, fixers can help diagnose an issue or offer advice on repair and maintenance. Although the repair rate is about 70% at these events, a repair is not guaranteed. The fixer volunteers specialize in various types of repairs and choose items based on their skill set and comfort level with the items. Volunteers may refuse to begin or continue with any repair as needed.   If an item is not repairable, this year we will also host an e-recycling event concurrently. We are in the process of finalizing this portion of the event, so stay tuned! We hope to announce details about this soon.
