Registration is required. Please register at the Repair Fair's website. A skilled volunteer will help you figure out what’s broken and possibly fix your broken household items – small appliances, electronics, computers, mobile devices – and more. They may also teach you how to fix your item. Learning how to fix and maintain your items is essential for Repair Fair events. Even if a repair is not possible, fixers can help diagnose an issue or offer advice on repair and maintenance. Although the repair rate is about 70% at these events, a repair is not guaranteed. The fixer volunteers specialize in various types of repairs and choose items based on their skill set and comfort level with the items. Volunteers may refuse to begin or continue with any repair as needed.

Registration required (registration closes at 5 pm on the day of the event) This month author Erin Riha will give a presentation on "Plotting a Story Roadmap". Do you have a great premise for a book but don’t know how to get from start to finish? In this workshop, we’ll cover what makes for a great story, including basic story structure, the major plot points, and pacing. Then, we’ll take these principles and learn how to use them to create a road map so that you’re ready to write—and finish!—your book. About our presenter: Erin Riha writes young adult speculative novels about ambitious girls who don’t know they’re not supposed to exceed expectations. She is the author of the Embers in Wait series.

Art Club for Families

Join us for a free, drop-in art project on the fourth Wednesday of every month. For our June project, artists will decorate a paper mache fairy wand. This is an ideal project for ages 5 and up. Everyone in the family is invited to make their own art, side-by-side!

Registration required Fluency Connecting Character to Meaning Award-winning writer Eric Witchey will lead this seminar on how to connect your characters to the deeper meaning of your story to deliver a profound feeling of significance to your readers. We have all read stories that leave us feeling like the experience meant more than the sum of the words on the page. Those are the stories that stay with us, haunt us, and give us the need to talk to others about what we read. Such stories are more than a mere sequence of interesting events that demonstrate superficial change in character. In such stories, the changes and challenges the character experiences are intrinsically connected to an underlying meaning that affects the reader emotionally, psychologically, and socially. Participants will walk away with several specific tools for planning and revision. Mr. Witchey will also provide a handout to allow review of the seminar content when participants return home.

Reserve a kit for teens here, then pick up the kits at Garden Home Community Library the second half of the month, any time between June 16 and June 30.
