CHAMBER ROUNDTABLE Ballot Breakdown: Watershed Rights and the Willamalane Levy   With several local measures appearing on the May 19, 2026 Lane County ballots, this month’s Roundtable will take a closer look at two proposals that could shape Springfield’s parks, public services, and regulatory landscape.   Join us for Ballot Breakdown, a conversation designed to help local business leaders better understand what’s on the May ballot. The program will feature brief presentations followed by an open discussion where participants can ask questions, share perspectives, and explore the potential implications for business and community. Vonnie Mikkelsen, President and CEO of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, will provide an overview of the Lane County Ballot Measure 20-373 (Watershed “Rights”). The Chamber is part of a community coalition opposing the measure due to concerns about the broad legal framework it proposes and the uncertainty it could create for businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies operating in Lane County. The measure would establish new legal rights for watersheds and allow individuals to bring lawsuits on their behalf. During the presentation, Vonnie will explain how the measure is structured, outline the concerns raised by the coalition, and discuss what adoption could mean for employers, infrastructure, and economic activity across the county. For the language of Ballot Measure 20-373, please visit the Oregon Secretary of State's online voter's pamphlet and click through to BM 20-373 in the sidebar. For more information on the coalition to vote no, please visit protectourcounty.org.   Michael Wargo, Executive Director of Willamalane Park and Recreation District, will present an overview of the district’s proposed five-year local option levy. The levy is intended to help address funding gaps for park maintenance, recreation programming, facility operations, and wildfire prevention. The appointed budget committee would review how levy funds are implemented, providing citizen oversight and transparency into the process. Levy expenditures would also be reviewed by the elected board, along with public disclosure of all levy spending, an independent audit, and monthly financial reporting. If approved, the levy would cost the median Springfield property owner approximately $49.20 per year. A mystery is rising! The filming of season 9 of everyone's favorite baking competition is underway, but a series of strange "accidents" is stalling production and putting the contestants and hosts at risk. Is it bad luck, or . . . sabotage? And can a team of investigators figure out what's happening . . . before it's too late? This 21+ evening invites our guests to participate as suspects and investigators in a fun, interactive mystery experience! You'll dress up for a night of baking fun, we'll provide the character roles, clues, and hints along the way, helping solve the mystery. Please indicate if you have a role preference (contestant, host, crew, investigator). We will do our best to accommodate your preferences. Have a hankering to participate as a baker/contestant? We'll have the "studio" set up with Easy Bake ovens and all the ingredients & recipes needed for the Cake Week episode of our show! The Moss On Saturday, April 4th, the Community Center for the Performing Arts proudly welcomes The Moss to the WOW Hall. In a musical landscape with fewer boundaries than ever before, THE MOSS’s exuberant brand of alternative rock spans genres, eras, and even oceans. The Utah-via-Hawaii group was born on the shores of Oahu in 2015, as teenage buddies Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) picked up a gig serenading diners at local taco trucks in between surf sessions. Naturally, their songs took shape in the spirit of the island, imbued with the joyfulness and breeziness of reggae culture yet cut with the introspection and communal spirit of mainland indie acts like Pinegrove and Cage the Elephant. By 2018, the duo had grown, enlisting Willie Fowler on drums and Addison’s brother Brierton on bass, and traded in beaches for the Great Salt Lake. They hit the stage at spots like local cornerstone Kilby Court, live-testing their modern-indie-meets-’60s-blues with a wide-eyed exuberance that translated effortlessly into their 2019 self-released debut, Bryology. Colored by the sound of Stratocasters jamming through reverb-cranked Fender amps, all backed by bouncy rhythms, Bryology marked a big step for the still-young quartet – but, true to The Moss’s nature, was still hard-coded with a DIY ethos. “We basically had no budget,” James remembers fondly. “We bought some nice mics and an interface and I ended up learning how to mix while we were recording.” The follow-up, 2021’s Kentucky Derby, brought a more aspirational, blue-sky tilt to the foundation they’d laid on Bryology, expanding the group’s sonic arsenal while keeping the relatable lyrical style and sun-soaked sentiment at the forefront. “I’m really proud of how we’ve evolved as a band over time,” Addison Sharp says. “It feels like we’ve taken every different influence and mashed them all together to create something that feels really special.” “Bryology seemed like a collection of separate songs we put together to make an album, whereas Kentucky Derby is a similar thought and story coming together to collectively make a more cohesive album,” adds Brierton Sharp says, noting the album’s tracks are sneakily arranged in pairs of two that seamlessly flow into one another. “Each song could be listened to on its own, or you could listen to them all and get a broader sense of our intention.” No matter how listeners choose to interact with The Moss’s music, the band just hopes they feel something. It’s that kinetic relationship between band and audience that makes their live performances – including a pitch-perfect recent set for Audiotree – so compelling. “No matter what we do, we want to make sure the songs are fun to play live,” says Fowler. “We pride ourselves on being a band people want to see live.” “There’s something special that happens when you get an immediate reaction to a song,” says James. “Whether it’s during a live show or even just a songwriting session, if there’s a reaction from people in the room, you know you’re on the right track.”
