A quarter of a million black people were still enslaved in the state of Texas after âthe peculiar institutionâ was abolished by the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. We invite you to discover why Texas wassuch a hotbed of slavery after its legal end, dive into the importance of General Orders, No. 3, and delve into the real cultural significance of an African American tradition that spans generations. Black Magic Woman Productions grew out of a need to create opportunities for theatre artists of color. Since 2006, BMW Productions has promoted an appreciation for the African-American theatre canon. Led by playwright Renee Lucas Wayne, this group of actors, playwrights, and directors continues to develop new works, re-imagine the Classics, and provide access to theatre for underserved communities. This programming is supported by the LEDCâs Art Committee, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the Lansdowne Arts Committee is to create, foster, and promote Lansdowneâs identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. The Lansdowne Art Committee is dedicated to nurturing creative expression, enhancing community engagement, stimulating economic growth, preserving and celebrating Lansdowneâs diversity, and cultivating arts education and access. Our Summer Festival features top-notch local talent performing a wide variety of live entertainment â from Motown to Broadway, Classical to Country, Rock & Pop to Barbershop, and special childrenâs shows to delight your little ones. The Rose Tree Summer Festival runs Wednesday â Sunday for nine weeks every summer and is closed on Mondays & Tuesdays. Tunnels of darkness illuminate vessels with light in Shatter the dark: a light at the end of the tunnel. I started making lamps with black sculpture clay and quickly realized black clay does not transfer or reflect light. A friend suggested white porcelain, which catches light and transfers it wonderfully. I hung a black lamp over a porcelain vessel and found emotional resonance with the combination. I am a shining vessel unaware of the source of my own light. I am a dark vessel of heat illuminating a cold, remote object. Gaze into the tunnel of darkness.See the light as it escapes you.Feel the cracks in the foundation of your self-awareness. Artist statement: My artistic life is a mining operation of faulty memories in dark tunnels of someone else’s creation. Sifting through the detritus of decades of the delirium of trauma, substance abuse and mental illness for the resonant shards of reality and unreality that can be distilled into an object that I can hold against my face and say “this, THIS is real. This happened.” My favorite things that inform my work are biology and the natural world, architecture and the semi-permanent built world, and the space that each of us carves out to inhabit in between. In this single-session class, young artists will learn the basics of handbuilding with clay making to go cups! Pinch pots are an easy, approachable way to explore clay. Kids will start by shaping a basic form and, as their confidence grows, can choose to turn it into something more imaginative, like a bowl, cup, animal, or small sculpture. No prior experience needed. The class is open to kids ages 6+. Parents for kids 6-13 are asked to stay parents are welcome to play along, though will not be given individual guidance.
