During this time, visit the collier pit to speak to volunteer colliers about the historic trade and what life was like for a collier.

This event may be modified in the case of inclement weather. Kick off our weeklong charcoal burn at 11:00 am and learn how the woods around Hopewell Furnace turned into its success.See how a furnace can take natural resources and transform them into something new during our aluminum casting demonstrations at 11:30 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm.Meet our new sheep and see them sheared to prepare for summer! Sheep shearing at 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm. Get to know our chickens and steer. Gain a better understanding of the craft of the molder and how they contributed to the furnace operation.This program is free and family friendly. Please note that this experience lasts about 1 hour.

What is Hopewell Furnace? Get the inside scoop from a park ranger on this introductory tour of Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site. Explore the historic buildings and landscape. Learn more about the site's history as an iron-making community and beyond, the people who lived and worked here, and how places like this shaped the nation.Tours start outside the Visitor Center and last approximately 45 minutes. The route will include uphill and downhill stretches, as well as uneven terrain. Restrooms and water fountains are located at the Visitor Center.
