Her international collaborations have taken her from the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal (featured in documentaries broadcast across seventeen Asian countries) to rural Peru and Native American reservations. Need to get some community service hours for school or scholarships?Come to the Middletown Free Library from 6:15-8:15PM on select Mondays and help out! Students MUST REGISTER beforehand as space is limited. We cannot accommodate students on the Waitlist at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience, but you may only volunteer if you are fully registered. (Students on the Waitlist may NOT volunteer. If you are waitlisted you must wait and see if you get an email indicating that you have come off the waitlist, and onto the fully registered list.) Check in at the Main Circulation Desk and ask for Miss Libby. Tasks involved may include:-organizing and cleaning up materials for children's programs,-shelf-straightening books,-spraying and wiping tables, -sweeping throughout the library,-crafting scavenger hunt and decorative displays for the Children's Area, and more. No Cell Phone Usage during volunteering time. All volunteers are expected to respect library and volunteering rules and directions, such as following directions, being polite, and maintaining a quiet atmosphere in the library. Due to safety concerns, if volunteers cannot adhere to library rules and follow directions, they will be dismissed from volunteering and will not receive a volunteer verification letter. Teens only, ages 13-17. As a reminder, all volunteers aged 18 and up MUST have volunteer clearance paperwork. We cannot accept volunteers who are aged 18 and over who do not have volunteer clearance paperwork. Attendance Standard: If a participant signs up and is a no-show, then they will be removed from a future MFL registered program. In this work, Walter, a Pulitzer finalist, exposes the countryâs failed response to the opioid crisis, and the malfeasance, corruption, and snake oil which blight the drug rehabilitation industry.Today, more people have access to treatment than ever before. So why isnât it working? The answer is that in Americaâwhere anyone can get addictedâonly certain people get a real chance to recover. Despite record numbers of overdose deaths, our default response is still to punish, while rehabs across the United States fail to incorporate scientifically proven strategies and exploit patients. In this book, youâll find the stories of four people who represent the failures of the rehab-industrial complex, and the ways our treatment system often prevents recovery. April is a black mom in Philadelphia, who witnessed firsthand how the governmentâs punitive response to the crack epidemic impeded her motherâs recoveryâand then her own. Chris, a young middle-class white man from Louisiana, received more opportunities in his addiction than April, including the chance to go to treatment instead of prison. Yet the only program the judge permitted was one that forced him to perform unpaid back-breaking labor at for-profit companies. Wendy is a mother from a wealthy suburb of Los Angeles, whose son died in a sober living home. She began investigating for-profit treatment programsâyet law enforcement and regulators routinely ignored her warnings, allowing rehab patients to die, again and again. Larry is a surgeon who himself struggled with addiction, and would eventually become one of the first Suboxone prescribers in the nation, drawing the scrutiny of the Drug Enforcement Administration. We apologize for the inconvenience, but you may only volunteer if you are fully registered. (Students on the Waitlist may NOT volunteer. Tasks involved may include:-organizing and cleaning up materials for children's programs,-shelf-straightening books,-spraying and wiping tables, -sweeping throughout the library,-crafting scavenger hunt and decorative displays for the Children's Area, and more. No Cell Phone Usage during volunteering time. All volunteers are expected to respect library and volunteering rules and directions, such as following directions, being polite, and maintaining a quiet atmosphere in the library. Due to safety concerns, if volunteers cannot adhere to library rules and follow directions, they will be dismissed from volunteering and will not receive a volunteer verification letter. Teens only, ages 13-17. As a reminder, all volunteers aged 18 and up MUST have volunteer clearance paperwork. Attendance Standard: If a participant signs up and is a no-show, then they will be removed from a future MFL registered program. Parents, do you have a teen (aged 13-17) who is great at Chess, analytical thinking, and working with kids; and who is trying to get community service hours for National Honors Society or National Junior Honors Society or for a school service hour requirement? Teens, are you in the National Junior Honor Society or National Honor Society or are you really good at Chess? Are you good with analytical thinking and do you like to play chess and logic games like Connect 4, Quatro, Kypto, Tic Tac Toe, and many others with kids? If so, then come to Middletown Free Library to volunteer for our Children's Chess and Logic Puzzle Club on select days when school is out/early dismissal! Set up begins at 10:00 and clean up ends at 1:00. We need teens to help set up/clean up the chairs, tables, and games, as well as teach chess and play analytical logic games with the preschool and elementary-aged kids. Tasks will also include spraying and wiping tables, sweeping floors, carpet sweeping, and organizing. Teens will earn 3 community service hours. As a reminder, all volunteers aged 18 and up MUST have volunteer clearance paperwork. Cell phone use is not allowed while volunteering. Registration is required, as well as a positive outlook, upbeat and patient attitude, ability to play and teach chess, and a readiness to follow directions and have fun! No Cell Phone usage during volunteering. Volunteers must be willing to follow all library quiet rules and directions. Kids Logic Puzzle and Chess Club at the Middletown Free Library from 10:30-12:30!! Need a brain-stimulating activity while the kids are out of school? Try out a chess match or some of our logic puzzles. Teen volunteers from the High School and Middle School will be there to help explain the rules and play games with the kids. We'll have different logic puzzle-style games like Krypto, Connect 4, Mastermind, Memory, and many more. We will also have several chess sets. Best for ages 5-11, but younger siblings always welcome. We will also have floor puzzles and easy games for the younger siblings. Stop in for one puzzle/match, or try a few more. Children under the age of 12 MUST have an adult present in the library. This is NOT a drop off event. Parents MUST remain in the library with children. Registration is encouraged so we can make sure we have enough volunteers, but not required.

Need to get some community service hours for school or scholarships?Come to the Middletown Free Library from 6:15-8:15PM on select Mondays and help out! Students MUST REGISTER beforehand as space is limited. We cannot accommodate students on the Waitlist at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience, but you may only volunteer if you are fully registered. (Students on the Waitlist may NOT volunteer. If you are waitlisted you must wait and see if you get an email indicating that you have come off the waitlist, and onto the fully registered list.) Check in at the Main Circulation Desk and ask for Miss Libby. Tasks involved may include:-organizing and cleaning up materials for children's programs,-shelf-straightening books,-spraying and wiping tables, -sweeping throughout the library,-crafting scavenger hunt and decorative displays for the Children's Area, and more. No Cell Phone Usage during volunteering time. All volunteers are expected to respect library and volunteering rules and directions, such as following directions, being polite, and maintaining a quiet atmosphere in the library. Due to safety concerns, if volunteers cannot adhere to library rules and follow directions, they will be dismissed from volunteering and will not receive a volunteer verification letter. Teens only, ages 13-17. As a reminder, all volunteers aged 18 and up MUST have volunteer clearance paperwork. We cannot accept volunteers who are aged 18 and over who do not have volunteer clearance paperwork. Attendance Standard: If a participant signs up and is a no-show, then they will be removed from a future MFL registered program.
