Who: Scout Leaders, at least 21 years of age who are US Citizens or possess a Green Card.  (Those 18 to 20 years of age can take the course to become an “Assistant Instructor” and those 13 to 17 years of age can take the course, along with a parent, to become an “Apprentice Instructor”) All candidates must have a solid background in firearm safety and be able to demonstrate good pistol shooting skills and safety. What:  On successful completion, candidates will receive a National Rifle Association Instructors Rating in Certified Pistol, which is required by BSA to supervise pistol shooting.  The course consists of 3 segments:  Basic Instructor Training, Basic Pistol Training, and Certified Pistol Instructor Training. When:  The course will consist of about 21 – 22 hours of classroom and range training.  The course will begin sharply at 5pm Friday May 8th, and should conclude around 12pm on Sunday May 10th.  (Rough Schedule:  Friday, arrival and set up 4:30pm, with class instruction 5pm to 12pm, Saturday 7am to 6pm and Sunday 8am to 12pm) Where:  The course will be held in Rothrock Lodge at Camp Horseshoe. Participants are welcome to camp overnight.  Meals will be provided for Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast.  Snacks will be provided for Friday and Saturday nights.  Friday night dinner will not be provided, so you will need to eat first or pack your dinner. Cost:  Cost for this training is $175.  The course fee includes lodging, training materials and supplies, meals and snacks.  Last date to sign up April 17. Registration and Payment is on-line via the Council website and calendar. Class size is limited, so only the first 12 qualified applicants can be accepted.  You must be present for and complete the entire course in order to be eligible for certification. Refund policy: 100% refund if cancelled by April 17. Refund after April 17, only if a qualified replacement is found to take your place.

Chester County Council and Horseshoe Scout Reservation are pleased to present year-round offerings for select merit badges. These badges will be offered monthly from September through May and feature hands-on badges that are best done in camp-like setting! Prices vary by badge but include everything the Scouts need to complete it! Most badges are from 9:00AM-3:00PM. *Select badges have varying locations and/or times. Please review the Parent Guide to ensure ability to attend. With the exception of the Cooking MB days, Scouts must bring their own lunch. Select badges have pre-requisites (requirements that must be completed by the Scouts prior to attending the course).
