Join us at Friendship Hill National Historic Site to learn about General LaFayette's visit to Uniontown and the night he spent with his friend Albert Gallatin in 1825 during his Farewell Tour of the United States.LaFayette was the last surviving general of the Revolutionary War, and decided to visit the United States one final time. Arriving in New York City in August 1824, he visited all 24 of the states in existence at that time. On his way back through, in May of 1825, LaFayette was greeted by Gallatin in Uniontown, PA. Gallatin remarked that his friend looked tired and offered him a peaceful night at Friendship Hill. The crowds would follow the party from Uniontown and grow, forcing LaFayette to spontaneously address the crowd on the eastern lawn. We don't know what the speech was, but we will be offering an opportunity to hear LaFayette speak at Friendship Hill to honor the 200th anniversary of his tour. We will have Gallatin and LaFayette available in the afternoon on Sunday, June 1st, 2025!
