While just about everyone has heard of Dungeons & Dragons, not many people know that there are scores of table top role playing games for children! In this program, children in 3rd-5th grade will be introduced to table top role playing games. A tabletop role-playing game is “a fun and structured cooperative activity with predictable rules and an unpredictable outcomes that takes place directly with other people around a table, where players are playing as characters they create in an open, interactive, responsive world facilitated by a game master.” Game Master, Sean Perazzelli, will share his love and enthusiasm for TTRPG, while teaching the basics of a variety of games, such as Mechs vs. Minions, Codenames and Marvel Champions. In some games, players will craft characters and immerse themselves in roleplaying across diverse settings and genres. In others, they will draw maps, build communities, tackle ethical dilemmas, and explore themes  from epic fantasy to personal growth. TTRPGs foster creativity, literacy, and social interaction. This program will take place on the second Thursday of each  month. Registration is required each month.

Emma Yoon runs a small business as a culinary instructor in Los Angeles teaching Korean royal court cuisine to young ladies striving to marry into the exclusive upper crust Korean families. She has built her business alongside her renowned Korean matchmaker godmother, which brings her one step closer to her dream of opening up a culinary school on her own. Supplemental Reading:     Book Club Background: Join us in person or online to look at the history of Mystery as a book genre. It has been almost 200 years since the publication of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” and since then, mystery as a genre has exploded in form, length, language, and more. From The Lady in White, Wilkie Collins’ novel that is considered the first of the genre, through the serialized adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the Golden Age of Agatha Christie, the advent of noir, the rise of thrillers, romantic suspense, and an international cast of characters ranging from retired police officers to meddling sleuths, some famous twins, and armchair detectives. TIME MAGAZINE PICKS THE 100 BEST MYSTERY NOVELS OF ALL TIME Each month we might read an article, a short story, a book, or a selection from the same author or the same country. We’ll look at award winners and debut novelists, the standard bearers and the rule breakers. We may talk about movies and TV, too.  We’ll work our way through the decades, looking at similar themes, exotic settings, and recent innovations in a genre that is both familiar and new. Some of the authors we’ll cover: Agatha Christie, Dashiell Hammett, Mary Higgins Clark, Alexander McCall Smith, Jo Nesbo, and more! Check out the recent Edgar Award winners HERE.
