Step back in time to explore the Betsey Williams Cottage, built in 1773 and home to Roger Williamsâ great-great-great granddaughters, Betsey and Rhoda Williams. Upon her death in 1871, Betsey Williams bequeathed the cottage and 102 acres of surrounding farmland to the city of Providence, which became the foundation of Roger Williams Park.  Drop in during these FREE open houses to learn about the Cottageâs history and its significance to Roger Williams Park. This free community celebration will bring Halloween to life with crafts, activities, storytelling, and the much-loved Wicked Walk Doors, where trick-or-treaters can knock on decorated doors and be greeted with candy. Costumes are strongly encouraged! To make the celebration even more convenient, families can take advantage of a free shuttle service sponsored by Experience Rhode Island, traveling between the two venues throughout the event. This month, weâre reading the graphic novel, Fun Home by Alison Bechdel (yes of the famous Bechdel test).Join us at 11am on Sunday, November 9th for a casual discussion of Bechdelâs memoir Fun Home, one of the most remarkable (and most studied!) comics of the past decade. This âfamily tragicomicâ charts her fraught relationship with her late father. This once banned book is an unflinching look at sexuality and repression and the challenging experience reconciling queer identity. In Bechdelâs hands, personal history becomes a work of amazing subtlety and power, written with controlled force and enlivened with humor, rich literary allusion, and heartbreaking detail. Synopsis: Distant and exacting, Bruce Bechdel was an English teacher and director of the town funeral home, which Alison and her family referred to as the âFun Home.â It was not until college that Alison, who had recently come out as a lesbian, discovered that her father was also gay. A few weeks after this revelation, he was dead, leaving a legacy of mystery for his daughter to resolve.

Planetarium Information Planetarium showtimes are Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm.Show lasts approximately 30 minutes. The Planetarium is only open during showtime. Private Planetarium shows and field trip programs are available during hours of operation. Please contact the Museum to learn more.Planetarium show tickets must be purchased online.Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the show start time to check-in for the Planetarium show. For safety reasons, Planetarium show ticketholders are not permitted to enter the Planetarium once the show has begun.Children must be age 4 and older to enter the Planetarium.
