Sign up is by the following age groups: Explorers (ages 4 to 6) Scientists (ages 7 to 9) Adventurers (ages 10-13) Animal Curators (ages 13-15)* Our science-based curriculum introduces students to the wonders of the natural world. New topics are covered each week through hands-on activities, meeting live animals, games and time for nature play and socialization. Sign up for one or all of the classes. Classes have a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 14. There are two teachers per age group. Please bring a snack and water bottle to each class. Be prepared to go outside in all weather conditions! *Please note that our Animal Curator Program does not follow the same curriculum as above. Students are immersed in hands-on activities working with our resident and rehabilitating wildlife. Activities include cleaning and setting up tanks, providing enrichment activities for wildlife and learning more about the care of wild and resident animals. Students alternate animal care tasks with hikes, nature journaling and other group activities at DPNC. This program is limited to 6 students and has one instructor. Dale will be signing copies of his book 'The New Craft of the Cocktail' Accompanied by tasty, curated Light Bites. Hilary Pierce, Curator and President of Art Collector's Athenaeum    Hilary Pierce curated the eclectic art collection for The Caf with the inspiration of Café Society and the arts.    The term Café Society evolved from the early 1900's European restaurant and café scene. Immigrants arriving in the United States continued with café culture by establishing and patronizing exciting new American Cafés and Clubs. In the roaring twenties.  Cafés were a nexus of modern art, bold literature and dynamic new jazz music, all enjoyed by a rising middle class and American icons like Reginald Marsh, Dorothy Parker, and Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Café Society continued through the 1930's, in spite of cultural crackdowns like Prohibition and well into the 1940's with growth of Hollywood and the post-war boom. The Café collection celebrates this arc of art and culture.

Fusion is a celebration of the visual, culinary and performing arts.  It features the fine works of the artists in the Velvet Mill, culinary creations of regional restaurants, a wine & beer tasting, live music by SUGAR, and tasteful, body painting. On Friday May 9, 2025 at 6 pm, the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce will host the 13th annual FUSION event at the Velvet Mill Studios in the Stonington Borough. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door. This popular and unique event showcases the Velvet Mill, highlights local artists and is also a fundraiser for the business organizations who recognize and promote the arts as an important partner in the region’s economy. The focal point of the evening will be live body painting on models that push the boundaries of artistic creativity and design. Guests will sample beer and wine from area breweries and vineyards, all while enjoying culinary specialties offered by local eateries.

A well-known and highly sought-after veteran of the Boston music scene for both recording and performance, Jeff has lived in central Vermont for over fifteen years and continues to find inspiration in the natural environment around him. He has recorded and/or performed with artists such as Boris McCutcheon, Reed Foehl, Jeffrey Foucault, Bow Thayer, Jabe Beyer, Meg Hutchinson, Catie Curtis and many more. One of his most recent recordings is Further On: The Songs of Billy Conway, a tribute to the late drummer and songwriter best known for his work with the band Morphine. Putnam Murdock Touring artist Putnam Murdock got his start as a professional musician with the Colorado rock and roll band Chief Broom. With Murdock as front man, the group achieved a slot on the 1997 H.O.R.D.E tour, appeared in festivals at Red Rocks Amphitheater and sold out venues throughout the western US.  After graduating with a songwriting degree from Berklee School in Music in 2002, Murdock launched a solo career and has since traveled across the country performing with artists such as Martin Sexton, Taj Mahal, Ben Taylor, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Kaki King. Monica Rizzio With a perspective equally influenced by her Texas roots and her Cape Cod home, Americana singer-songwriter Monica Rizzio has emerged as one of the finest talents in the East Coast music scene. The Troublemakers Saturday, May 10 Show: 8p | Doors: 7p Tickets: $15 100 Watt Suns, John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band, The Hoolios, Whitesmoke, Soul Searchers, Brother Big Eye, Green Tea, Water St. Quartet, Crows Toes, and The Collective are just a few of the bands the members of The Troublemakers were playing in while this band formed accidentally in the summer of 2016. A band canceled on a local booker and and after a few phone calls, the lineup was assembled. The lineup includes the area’s most talented, in demand and seasoned veteran players. Ronnie Lewis plays the drums and handles lead vocals. Sitting next to him is Don “DC” Culp who plays the drums as well. Together they create a devastating pocket. The always busy - and in high demand - Dan Sherer holds down the keyboard/piano duties. Bill Light handles most of the lead guitar work and backing vocals. The band is rounded out by the younger but already seasoned Josh White (rhythm/lead guitar) and Mike Palazzolo on bass. The Troublemakers play music and have fun, that’s actually their only real rule. No egos and none of the other nonsense that, unfortunately, has become part of being a modern-working musician. It’s refreshing to see them having fun on stage, acting like they are in the garage like when they were kids and just playing music to play music!

Inspired by the lilting mariachi tones of several Ward Hayden & the Outliers nee Girls, Guns and Glory originals, this tribute to Doug Sahm and the Texas Tornados and other outlaws recalls how derivative Texmex music was of the British Invasion beat. Coming as contemporaries of the Beatles, Sir Douglas and the Quintet were the hazy vision of popular music seen through several cases of MD 20-20 in a Texas motel room by producer Heuy Meaux and quickly hit the charts in 1966 with She's About a Mover amidst the parallel success of the one-hit wonder 96 Tears. The sound came to rest in San Antonio and we've got the same question: "Anybody Going"?      In no small way, this is also a tribute to the tribute. Sahm's music and energy have been kept alive by his Texas collaborators through the continuation of the Tejano collective Los Super Seven formed just before Sahm's passing. RI and Texas have always had a musical connection and with a nod to the original but to distinguish our version that began at the Knickerbocker Cafe in 2018 we pay homage to both spicy texmex music and to Westerly's spicy culinary heritage of Soupy sausage with Los Soupermen.       The Knickerbocker will be filled with dancers and listeners alike for this annual tradition; this night featuring the incomparable vocals of Pat Halpin of the 351s with a krewe of Boston outlaws and Rory Macleod on bass who arranged this project and himself played behind Doug Sahm in Austin when that 'Cosmic Cowboy' hopped on stage with virtually every band! Hop on to the dance floor with us.      Yes, it's mothers day, so once you go out for brunch, bring your mom to cut the rug!

New topics are covered each week through hands-on activities, meeting live animals, games and time for nature play and socialization. Sign up for one or all of the classes. Be prepared to go outside in all weather conditions! *Please note that our Animal Curator Program does not follow the same curriculum as above. Frank Viele Thursday, May 15 Playing in the Tap Room Show Time 8pm | Free | 21+ Frank Viele’s brand of New England blues rock tugs at the heartstrings, pulling the listener on a surprise journey that transcends genre. Yet even as he’s racked up accolades over the past 7 years — including New England Music Awards for Album of the Year, Male Performer of the Year, Songwriter of The Year (X2), and Live Act of The Year for gutsy, gritty tracks like “Broken Love Song” and “‘Til The Bourbon’s All Gone” — he’s rarely paused to savor the moment before moving on to yet another tour, album, or collaboration. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit in early 2020 and he was forced to hunker down that Viele realized that time itself was the world’s most precarious, yet precious, resource. At that time, Viele embarked on a writing-and-recording journey with Jimmy Nutt (Jason Isbell, American Aquarium, The Dead South) and James LeBlanc (Travis Tritt, Will Hoge, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Dylan LeBlanc, Kid Rock, Rascal Flatts) of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Within this co-writing collaborative partnership, Viele approached each new song slowly, intentionally, and with an open mind, challenging himself to transcend the limits of genre and industry expectations. In 2021, a handful songs that he had started recording in Connecticut, and finished at Nutthouse Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, were brought to life in the 2021 EP “Time Is A Thief.”  This EP won him the coveted New England Music Award for “Songwriter of The Year” for the second time and acted as a prequel to Viele’s upcoming full-length 2023 album. In January 2023, the first track off Viele’s forthcoming, 13-song album completed in Nutthouse Recording Studios, “Hearts We Left Behind”, came out in January of 2023 and was featured on Boston’s Country 102.5 as their “Song Of The Week”.  “Hearts” continues to receive critical acclaim citing Viele’s strength as a storyteller and his signature vocal delivery. “Frank Viele continues to astound with his new single entitled “Hearts We Left Behind” and has once again crafted a classic. Viele is a consummate wordsmith. His songs contain magic dust capable of spinning webs of musical ecstasy.” (MyAmpMusic.co) The “magic dust” they are referring to has been gathered from experiences on the road and in venues across the country.  Viele built his sound and narrated his journey while constantly touring the United States, playing hundreds of shows each year and sharing the stage with artists such as John Waite, Jeffrey Gaines, Lee DeWyze, Zach Myers of Shinedown, Bob Marley’s Wailers, Howie Day, Xavier Rudd, Ingrid Michaelson, Tony Lucca, Pat McGee, and Blues Traveler, among others, since the release of his first solo album in 2015. But Frank Viele’s musical journey starts long before that… Fondly listening to his grandmother play piano as a child and later reinvigorated as a teenager inspired by his older brother’s taste in music and an acoustic guitar he left behind when he moved to the West Coast, Viele developed a deep appreciation for a wide range of genres including rock, blues, folk, and country. He began writing his own music as a teenager and quickly developed a knack for crafting deeply personal and emotive songs that spoke to the human experience. After honing his craft fronting New York City based Jam/Funk/Rock Outfit “Frank Viele & The Manhattan Project”, Viele released his debut solo album “Fall Your Way” in 2015, which was met with critical acclaim including 2 New England Music Awards for Album of The Year and Male Performer of The Year.  (On top of the Live Act of The Year Award he had received in 2014). Stacking up additional accolades on the road in 2016, Frank Viele won the Deli Magazine award for “New England’s Best Emerging Folk/Soul Act”.  He then released his second solo album, “What’s His Name?” which made it’s way onto the AMA Charts and Relix National Jam Radio Charts carried by the single, “Pomegranate”.  The Album, “What’s His Name?” won Frank Viele the New England Music Award for “Songwriter of The Year” which paved this Connecticut musician’s path to Muscle Shoals, Alabama where he began the next chapter of his writing and recording journey.  Viele’s music is characterized not only by his powerful vocals, soulful guitar playing, and poignant lyrics, but also its deep honesty. This is an artist who is not afraid of wearing his heart on his sleeve, and dig deep into the joys and struggles of life. He has been praised for his ability to blend elements of folk, blues, and rock into a unique sound that is both timeless and contemporary. Over the years, Viele has built a dedicated fanbase thanks to his dynamic live performances and his ability to connect with his audience on a deeply personal level. With several albums under his belt and a growing reputation as one of the most exciting voices in Americana music, Frank Viele continues to push the boundaries of what it means to be a modern singer-songwriter. Whether he’s performing on stage or in the studio, he approaches his music with a passion and intensity that is infectious, making more and more folks take notice…one stage at a time.
