Grab your friends and family, dust off your favorite costumes, and head to Conway for a wickedly great time! Join the Wicked Crawl for Cancer and enjoy specialty concoctions and treats at participating local establishments while supporting cancer patients in our community. How It Works Throughout the month of October, participating locations will offer special "Wicked Concoctions" – delicious specialty drinks and treats created specifically for this fundraiser. Visit multiple locations to experience the variety of offerings while supporting a great cause. 100% of proceeds from these specialty items will directly benefit local cancer patients. About the Cancer Care Fund The CMC Foundation's Cancer Care Fund provides critical financial assistance to local cancer patients during treatment. The fund helps cover: Health needs and medical expenses Critical living expenses during treatment Immediate financial assistance while other resources are arranged Social workers and medical staff at the CMC Cancer Center identify patients in need and approve assistance based on individual circumstances. This fund helps ease the financial burden so patients can focus on hope, health, and healing. The 2025 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with The Snowbird Cherokees. Deep in the mountains of western North Carolina is the isolated Cherokee community of Snowbird. The ancestors of these Native Americans managed to flee U.S. soldiers in 1838 when the Cherokee Nation was forced to march the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. This film explores the daily lives and culture of the present-day Cherokees, while looking into the fascinating history and culture of these Native Americans. The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 5th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway. Join us Saturday, November 8th, for a free 30 minute activity at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. Veteran’s Day is right around the corner and we’re showing our gratitude to those who have served in the military by decorating quilt squares. These squares will be sewn into quilts and given to local veterans through the Quilts of Valor Foundation, all ages are welcome to participate. The public is invited to view a special Quilts of Valor presentation at the Horry County Museum. Quilts made especially for local veterans will be presented by the Conway Quilt Guild Quilts of Valor Group on Saturday, November 8th at 11 AM. Quilts to be awarded can be viewed at the Horry County Museum starting October 25th. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) is to cover all service members and veterans, touched by war, with a comforting and healing quilt. Since 2003, the foundation, now a national organization, has awarded over 400,000 quilts to veterans throughout the country. The Conway Quilt Guild has been recognized as one of the newest QOV groups, seeking to expand recognition to veterans in the northern and western parts of Horry County. In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, The Horry County Museum, in partnership with the South Carolina Commission for Community Advancement and Engagement, will host a screening of the film Killers of the Flower Moon. After the viewing, the audience is invited to participate in a Q&A discussion about the film and Native American history and culture within South Carolina. The 2025 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with Courage in Korea: A Soldier’s Story. The documentary presents the little-known story of the Korean War through the experiences of the late Sergeant Paul Thompkins, a Korean War veteran from Conway, South Carolina. Thompkins, who became a local pastor after the war, was engaged in combat in Korea with the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division, was captured when U.S. lines were overrun by the Chinese army, and spent more than two-and-a-half years as a prisoner-of-war in North Korea’s Communist prison camps. The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 12th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway. See history come to life at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm! A large part of farm life in Horry County involved old-fashioned syrup making. Each fall, sugar cane was gathered from the field and taken to a local cane mill where the juice was squeezed from the stalk. Cooking down the raw juice into sweet cane syrup became a celebration and gathering for the community and is a tradition that is carried on each year at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm. Join us Saturday, November 15th from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm as staff and volunteers demonstrate the process of making cane syrup and a variety of other traditional activities including children’s games, cooking on a wood burning stove, and more! This event is free and open to the public. The L.W. Paul Living History Farm is located at 2279 Harris Short Cut Road in Conway, SC. This film, part of the Carolina Stories Series by SCETV, examines why African-Americans supported the war effort and how they were disappointed by the response to their efforts; women’s roles and how the war played a part in the women’s movement; military camps and what they meant for South Carolina cities; and how the influenza epidemic in 1918 impacted the state.
