Are you interested in birds and do you enjoy being in nature? Join a park ranger and/or a volunteer for our First Saturday morning birdwalks! The walks start at the Star Fort Pond at 8am and end around 11am. We do a slow-paced 1.5 mile walk around the pond while we listen and look for birds and other wildlife. All levels of birders are welcome, from beginner to expert. We have a limited number of binoculars available to borrow with a photo ID.Check the park Facebook page for updates/cancellations due to inclement weather. - Meet at the Star Fort Pond parking lot at 8am- Wear comfortable footwear for a slow paced 1.5 mile walk- Bring water and wear shoes that can get wet/muddy- Wear layers as temperatures will change throughout the morning- Free of charge and all are welcome, from beginners to experts- Limited number of binoculars available to borrow with an ID   Directions to Star Fort Pond: Take Highway 246 south from the Town of Ninety Six. Ninety Six National Historic Site will be a host site for the 2026 Great Southeast Pollinator Census on August 21st and 22nd from 10am to 2pm. This is a family friendly activity where you can be a citizen scientist and collect important data about pollinators.  Here is how it works: Visit the Great Southeast Pollinator Census tent at Ninety Six National Historic Site on August 21 or 22 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.Pick up a clipboard, pencil, and pollinator counting sheet.Choose a favorite flowering plant in the park that has pollinators visiting it.Count all the pollinators that visit that plant for 15 minutes.Return to the tent and submit your data. You will be looking for:Bumble beesCarpenter beesHoney beesSmall beesWaspsFliesButterflies/MothsOther Insects Your efforts will help generate useful date about pollinator populations and increase your entomological (insect) literacy!  Learn more about the count.
