Thursday, August 21 Homestead Act (Monthly Program) South Canyon Lutheran Church, 700 S 44th St, Rapid City, SD 6:30 pm: Mix and mingle; 7:00 pm: Short member meeting 7:15 pm: Program: John Rankin, one of our members, will be presenting the Homestead Act of 1862 for us. This Act was a law that allowed citizens to claim 160 acres of public Land to live on and improve. Abraham Lincoln signed this into law during the Civil War. We will be able to learn how to find out if our ancestors were part of this historic ACT! Guests are welcome.
