Join the Texas Buffalo Soldiers at Possum Kingdom State Park and see History come Alive! Join the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Out On the Trail at Possum Kingdom State Park. Learn about the historic Buffalo Soldiers and their role throughout Texas and the Western Frontier. Listen to the stories about the Buffalo Soldiers from Pvt. Mack and Capt. Dolifka. You never know what artifacts will be on display or what type of activities the Buffalo Soldiers program will bring out.They may not be back in this part of Texas for awhile so don't miss this opportunity to travel through history with us.  Buffalo Soldier programming is free upon paid park entry.

Explore some of the less-traveled corners of the park on this Ranger-guided hike! This hike is approximately 2 miles and will require about 2 hours to complete. This is a difficult hike over rocky terrain and through crowded forests on a narrow trail. Closed-toed shoes are required. Drinking water is also required (we suggest at least 32 oz. per person). Meet up at the Chaparral Trailhead by the Lakeview restroom.
