Join a Park Ranger and volunteer Fishing Ambassadors to Learn to Surf Fish!This family friendly program is designed for the absolute beginner to learn all about fishing. From basic tackle and casting techniques to stewardship and conservation. Park staff and volunteers will help you gain the knowledge to pick up fishing all on your own.This 2-hour program starts at 9:30 am at the Malaquite Visitor Center and begins with a classroom session and then moves down to Malaquite Beach to fish for approximately 45-60 minutes. All equipment is provided thanks to our friends at the IGFA! Participants should come prepared with what they need for the weather conditions, including sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, drinking water, and clothes that can get wet.Space is limited and advance registration is required. Signup by calling the Malaquite Visitor Center at 361-949-8068. You may signup beginning 7 days before each program date.Children must be accompanied by a participating adult during the program. A fishing license is not required for this instructional program and all fishing is catch and release only.

The Reading With A Ranger program is presented in partnership with Corpus Christi Public Libraries.Beat the summer heat and join a park ranger at the library! Learn about an interesting animal that calls the national seashore home by listening to a story and participating in a hands-on activity.In summer 2026, rangers will be reading Great Sharky Shark by Suzanne Tate. This story and additional activity will teach participants all about marine debris and recycling.

Professional development for anyone who works in education with children or the public, including teachers, homeschoolers, informal educators, and scout leadersProject WILD invites you to explore and share the fascinating world of aquatic wildlife and ecosystems using fun, hands-on educational activities. You will experience engaging TEKS-aligned activities while networking with other educators. Workshop participants receive:6 hours TEA-approved CPE and TEEAC CreditAquatic WILD K-12 guideTexas-specific resourcesPlease dress for indoor and outdoor learning. Bring a lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided. A fee waiver for park entrance will be provided to all registered attendees. $35 Pre-registration is required. Deadline June 9, 2026. Fee is for WILD training. WILD materials are distributed only with requisite hours of training.  Attendance and participation in the entire experience are required to receive any of the materials, regardless of fee payment.
