The Woodstock Farmers’ Market prepares a savory three-course meal made from locally sourced ingredients. Local volunteers help serve the dishes, while you enjoy music from a local bagpiper. It is truly a full-sensory experience, while you enjoy your meal under the picturesque Middle Covered Bridge in Woodstock, VT. Proceeds from the lunch go to benefit Sustainable Woodstock, a local non-profit dedicated to building a more sustainable future for our local communities. University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H is hosting a free workshop on August 18 for kids, ages 8 to 18, interested in learning about hydroponics, the science of growing plants without soil by using nutrient-rich water solutions. The workshop will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Ferndean Farm in Woodstock. The farm grows a wide range of fresh produce year-round, including microgreens, leafy greens, herbs and edible flowers. Registration is required as space is limited to 15 participants. To register, go to https://go.uvm.edu/quantum-seed Workshop participants will explore how hydroponics works by seeding, transplanting and harvesting vegetables. They also will learn about the ancient history of hydroponic growing and the science connection to food access and climate and help deliver fresh produce to a local food shelf. Participants are asked to bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes as activities will take place both outside and in the hydroponics labs. Gloves and snacks will be provided. Not only can it disrupt day-to-day operations and create financial burdens, but it can impact your customers' trust. Did you know that 90% of all cyber attacks on organizations involve some form of social engineering? Did you know that 94% of all malware is spread through email? Did you know that 30% of employees admit to clicking on a malicious link or attachment in their email? All this means that most cyberattacks are preventable through staff training and implementing cyber security best practices. The training on Wednesday, May 21st will focus on email, text, and in-person social engineering, including what it means, what to look for, and how to prevent your business from falling victim to an attack. The training will also discuss strong passwords and remote worker best practices.
