In this class you will be led through tutorials and learn how to use and create templates to build functional pottery pieces. On Tuesdays we will create and on Thursdays we will refine. All pieces will be fired at the end of the series, with a final free class week for you to glaze your pieces (required). Here is your opportunity to get a glimpse into the world of darkroom film photography and alternative processes. First in a 6-session series, B&W Film Photography introduces students to the basics of shooting with a 35mm film camera. The first part of the class will be spent going over basic camera use and exposure of shooting a roll of Black & White film on the Museum campus. You’ll learn how to load film in your camera, receive tips for shooting manually, and receive 1 on 1 time with the instructor to ask any questions. After a lunch break, students will develop their roll of film in Art Lab’s darkroom.  All supplies will be provided, except for a 35mm film camera and B&W film.  Students do not need to register for the entire series, they can take only the classes that work for them.  Morgan Ford is a Fine Art Photographer from Johnson City, TN. Morgan has been an artist all of her life, but after her first 35mm photography course in High School she fell in love with the process of light and catching that brief moment in time. At the age of 20 years old she moved to California and studied photography at Brooks Institute of Photography where she learned to shoot and develop her own film. Morgan has had exhibits all over the country showing her Fine Art B&W Photography of beautiful countrysides, wild horses, and dilapidated buildings. She currently resides in the Appalachian Mountains where she has a studio, darkroom, and large garden.  Registration Deadline: May 3

Join us May 15th from 4pm to 5pm for a family-friendly tour of “Medieval to Metal: The Art & Evolution Of The Guitar.”Please RSVP by emailing [email protected] us in the Legard and United Company Galleries as we showcase the artistic development of the guitar. Developed by The National GUITAR Museum (NGM), it features 40 objects, ranging from the intricately inlaid Moorish oud and six-foot long Renaissance theorbo on to the modern Italian design of the Eko and transparent acrylic body of California’s BC Rich guitars. Spanning centuries of design and craftsmanship, the exhibition takes visitors through the history of an object that is one of the most recognizable items on the planet.Prepared by the National GUITAR Museum. This exhibition is part of WKMA’s McGlothlin Exhibition Series and is sponsored by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino of Bristol, and Matt Smith Realty.

Youth Art Camp 2025 The theme for Art Camp 2025 is Then and Now, Near and Far. This summer camp will consist of five weeks with unique World Culture related themes ranging from local Appalachian handcrafting traditions to Art History focused-projects from cultures around the world. Children will make a variety of projects each week including paper basket weaving, exploring ancient cave art, studying brushwork of the French Impressionists, or even learning about animals all around the world!   Ancient Art Week June 2nd–6th This week of art camp is inspired by artwork created thousands of years ago! We are going all the way back to prehistoric times and creating artwork inspired by cave paintings. Then, campers will join us on a journey through time and explore various artworks from major civilizations throughout history. Then and Now, Near and Far. This summer, teens will have the opportunity to learn about art-making past and present, close to home, and far away. Week One will cover ancient art-making techniques from around the world. Week Two will focus on modern and contemporary western art movements and their art processes. Week Three will explore regional Appalachian crafts, and Week Four will investigate art from around the world with a highlight on Indigenous contemporary art. July’s special Week Five will tap into biomes, nature, and animal art as a precursor to future programming on our incoming Worrell Animal Art Collection!   THIS CAMP:   THEN: Ancient Art Week June 2nd–6th 9AM-4PM $250/week (Call for multi week or multi teen family discount) Art Lab Building next to WKMA This week of art camp is inspired by artwork created thousands of years ago in Ancient Egypt, China, Mesopotamia, and more. This summer camp will consist of five weeks with unique World Culture related themes ranging from local Appalachian handcrafting traditions to Art History focused-projects from cultures around the world. Children will make a variety of projects each week including paper basket weaving, exploring ancient cave art, studying brushwork of the French Impressionists, or even learning about animals all around the world!   Modern and Contemporary Art Week June 9th–13th This week of art camp will be focused on artwork created from the 1860’s and beyond! Campers will begin the week with art movements like Impressionism and Art Nouveau. Then, as the week progresses, we learn about other art movements in the modern and contemporary world such as Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Pop Art, Minimalism, and more. Second in a 6-session series, Developing Negatives introduces students to the film developing process. This class is designed for students to properly develop their own negatives. Students can bring any roll of film they have shot to develop and make a proper contact sheet in the darkroom.
