Youth Art Camp 2025 The theme for Art Camp 2025 is Then and Now, Near and Far. This summer camp will consist of five weeks with unique World Culture related themes ranging from local Appalachian handcrafting traditions to Art History focused-projects from cultures around the world. Children will make a variety of projects each week including paper basket weaving, exploring ancient cave art, studying brushwork of the French Impressionists, or even learning about animals all around the world!   Ancient Art Week June 2nd–6th This week of art camp is inspired by artwork created thousands of years ago! We are going all the way back to prehistoric times and creating artwork inspired by cave paintings. Then, campers will join us on a journey through time and explore various artworks from major civilizations throughout history. Campers will create art based on Ancient Egypt, Neolithic China, Mesopotamia, and more!  When purchasing tickets, please select the correct age group for your child.   Read our FAQ here. Then and Now, Near and Far. This summer, teens will have the opportunity to learn about art-making past and present, close to home, and far away. Week One will cover ancient art-making techniques from around the world. Week Two will focus on modern and contemporary western art movements and their art processes. Week Three will explore regional Appalachian crafts, and Week Four will investigate art from around the world with a highlight on Indigenous contemporary art. July’s special Week Five will tap into biomes, nature, and animal art as a precursor to future programming on our incoming Worrell Animal Art Collection!   THIS CAMP:   THEN: Ancient Art Week June 2nd–6th 9AM-4PM $250/week (Call for multi week or multi teen family discount) Art Lab Building next to WKMA This week of art camp is inspired by artwork created thousands of years ago in Ancient Egypt, China, Mesopotamia, and more. Youth Art Camp 2025 The theme for Art Camp 2025 is Then and Now, Near and Far. This summer camp will consist of five weeks with unique World Culture related themes ranging from local Appalachian handcrafting traditions to Art History focused-projects from cultures around the world. Children will make a variety of projects each week including paper basket weaving, exploring ancient cave art, studying brushwork of the French Impressionists, or even learning about animals all around the world!   Modern and Contemporary Art Week June 9th–13th This week of art camp will be focused on artwork created from the 1860’s and beyond! Campers will begin the week with art movements like Impressionism and Art Nouveau. Then, as the week progresses, we learn about other art movements in the modern and contemporary world such as Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Pop Art, Minimalism, and more. Instructor: Morgan FordCost: $108Time and date(s): Saturday June 14, 11 a.m. –  5 p.m.Location: Art Lab Lecture Room & DarkroomSkill level: New LearnersAudience: Teen – adult Description: Photography is so much more than a quick phone snap the hands-on experience of analog processes are undeniably fascinating. Here is your opportunity to get a glimpse into the world of darkroom film photography and alternative processes. Second in a 6-session series, Developing Negatives introduces students to the film developing process. This class is designed for students to properly develop their own negatives. Students can bring any roll of film they have shot to develop and make a proper contact sheet in the darkroom. After developing negatives and a contact sheet the class will go over proper exposure, composition and selecting images for enlargement with instructor.  All supplies will be provided, except for a 35mm film camera and B&W film.  Students do not need to register for the entire series, they can take only the classes that work for them.  Morgan Ford is a Fine Art Photographer from Johnson City, TN. Morgan has been an artist all of her life, but after her first 35mm photography course in High School she fell in love with the process of light and catching that brief moment in time. At the age of 20 years old she moved to California and studied photography at Brooks Institute of Photography where she learned to shoot and develop her own film. Morgan has had exhibits all over the country showing her Fine Art B&W Photography of beautiful countrysides, wild horses, and dilapidated buildings. She currently resides in the Appalachian Mountains where she has a studio, darkroom, and large garden.  Registration Deadline: June 7

This summer camp will consist of five weeks with unique World Culture related themes ranging from local Appalachian handcrafting traditions to Art History focused-projects from cultures around the world. Children will make a variety of projects each week including paper basket weaving, exploring ancient cave art, studying brushwork of the French Impressionists, or even learning about animals all around the world!   Appalachian Art and Craft Week June 16th–20th This camp week will be very cozy and close to home, by celebrating Appalachian arts and crafts all week long! Campers will be very active with their hands with all the various mediums we will be exploring during Appalachian week. We will begin the week with pottery and working with clay. Then, we get experimenting with textile projects. Lastly, we round off the week with carving and toy making.
