Low-Cost Rabies, Distemper, and Microchip Clinic

The AWLA hosts a Drive-Up Rabies, Distemper and Microchip Clinic for dogs and cats the first Wednesday of every month! The clinic is BY RESERVATION ONLY. The clinic runs from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. A separate appointment slot is needed for each pet. Please note: Registration for each monthly clinic opens at noon two Sundays before the clinic date. To ensure we are observing the best safety protocols for our human and animal visitors and our staff, all attendees will be required to comply with the following guidelines: You must arrive by your scheduled time, or we will not be able to serve you.Owners will not be permitted to enter the building.All dogs must be on leashes cats must be in carriers. If you need a leash or carrier, please contact us at [email protected] prior to the event.Vaccinations Offered and Cost: Rabies – for dogs and cats ($10)DA2PP – Canine Distemper-Adenovirus Type 2-Parainfluenza-Parvovirus vaccine, for dogs (Free thanks to Petco Love)FVRCP – Feline Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia vaccine, for cats (Free thanks to Petco Love)Microchips: PetLink Microfindr microchips – For dogs and cats ($10)Dogs and cats with a current rabies vaccination will receive a 3-year rabies vaccination. If requesting a 3-year rabies vaccination for your pet, you must bring a copy of your pet’s current rabies certificate (not the rabies tag) to the Clinic. Please note that all distemper vaccines will be valid for 1 year. Once you have registered, the AWLA will contact you via email to complete registration paperwork ahead of the clinic. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card on the day of the event. For questions, email [email protected]. Virginia law requires that all dogs and cats four months of age and older have a current rabies vaccine. Residents of the City of Alexandria are also required to license dogs and cats that are four months of age and older. Information about licensing can be found here. 2027 Calendar Pet Photo Contest

Open for entries and voting June 1 at 8 AM – June 30 at 8 PM!Our annual calendar pet photo contest is one of our biggest and most popular fundraisers of the year — and it runs June 1 through June 30! We know your pets are out of this world, so this year’s contest is going intergalactic as we celebrate 80 years of serving pets and people in Alexandria. Throughout June, you can upload your pets’ photos ($35 donation per photo entry) and ask your friends and family to cast votes ($1 per vote) online. All submitted pictures will be in the 2027 calendar, but the animals with the most votes will win some super stellar prizes! There will be weekly challenges to help you win bonus votes, too. All kinds of animals (dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, guinea pigs, etc.) can be submitted, and do not have to have been adopted from the AWLA or live in Alexandria. The GRAND PRIZE winner will be named Alexandria’s 2027 Animal of the Year, grace the front and back calendar cover, receive a professional photo session, receive year-round invitations to AWLA events as “Alexandria’s Animal of the Year,” including our 80th Anniversary Gala, have their photo featured on transport buses throughout northern Virginia, receive a city proclamation from the mayor, and be featured in a full-page ad in a local magazine, AND MORE! The next THREE winners will receive professional photo sessions, receive full-page photo on the month of their choice in the 2027 calendar, and be featured in a full-page ad in a local magazine. There are also prizes for pets who place 5th – 7th and who raise $250 or more. There are two ways you can participate:Enter the contest! Submit your favorite picture of your pet(s) for a chance to win amazing prizes (including the opportunity to be named Alexandria’s Animal of 2027). Each entry is $35. Vote for your favorite pets! Each vote = $1 and the proceeds fund the AWLA’s critical work to help animals and people in our community. Through your support and participation in events like our annual photo calendar contest, we can continue to go above and beyond, not only for animals at the shelter, but for pets – and the people who love them – across the community, providing food, guidance, medical support and peace of mind.
