The Anderson and VCUarts are pleased to announce a call for submissions for the 2026 Excellence in Adjunct Research Exhibition aimed at recognizing outstanding creative research among current VCUarts adjunct faculty members. Through a process of open application and adjudication, one adjunct faculty member will be selected for the annual Excellence in Adjunct Research Exhibition at The Anderson.  The exhibition is scheduled for August 25–September 26 in Gallery A, with an anticipated opening reception on August 28. Additional programming (lectures, workshops, etc.) may be scheduled at the discretion of the Anderson staff.  Exhibitors are expected to install and deinstall their own exhibition. Gallery space will be determined in coordination with Anderson staff after adjudication and based on the exhibition proposal. Please note that the Anderson is not equipped with an elevator.   Applications must include: – The candidate’s name, email address, and years of service with the department – 5–10 representative images of the candidate’s research – The candidate’s artist statement, bio, CV, and description of proposed exhibition. Timeline: 4/16  Submissions open. The 2026 VCUarts MFA Thesis Exhibition will premiere cutting-edge works from twenty-eight emerging artists and designers, representing the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts departments of Craft/Material Studies, Graphic Design, Kinetic Imaging, Painting + Printmaking, Photography + Film, and Sculpture + Extended Media. Presented over two rounds at the Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU’s Markel Center, the thesis exhibition is the culmination of two years of intensive research and practice, showcasing the creativity, dynamism, exploration, and invention that make VCUarts one of the nation’s leading schools of art and design. This exhibition was curated by Egbert Vongmalaithong, assistant curator of the ICA, and guest curator Taylor Jasper, Susan and Rob White Associate Curator of Visual Arts of the Walker Art Center. The Anderson and VCUarts are pleased to present ReFashioned Runway. This juried exhibition invites VCUarts and fashion merchandising students to create high fashion garments and accessories from pre-loved garments supplied by Pop Up Stop. Pop Up Stop is a faculty-led educational and advocacy program dedicated to diverting post-consumer waste from landfills and incineration, as well as spreading awareness about the connection between the way we treat our clothes and the textile waste crisis. Through this interdisciplinary exhibit, ReFashioned Runway aims to bring awareness to textile waste through clothing reuse and upcycling.  Learn More:There is a garment selection event on September 4, 2026 that is required for all interested applicants. This event will provide applicants with an opportunity to document the original garments before they upcycle them for the open call. The exhibition will be open from January 22 – February 13, 2027. Applicants can submit up to three pieces during the open call, spanning from jewelry and accessories to full looks. Additionally, if an applicant would prefer to exhibit a photo of their piece rather than the physical garment, there will be a separate application process. The Mary Anne Rennolds Chamber Concert series presents cellist Santiago Canon-Valencia on Sunday, November 8th at 3:00pm in the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. Season subscriptions for the Rennolds series are $100.00. Individual tickets to each concert will be available late Summer 2026 for $35.00. Colombian cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia is a prolific soloist, composer, commissioner, recording artist, painter, and photographer described as “technically flawless… totally under the skin of the composers’ idioms” (The Strad). He was named a BBC New Generation Artist in 2022. Cañón-Valencia made his orchestral debut as a soloist with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá at age six, blossoming into an accomplished musician praised as “an artist from whom sound and texture flow with ease and authenticity” (The Whole Note).  Read more about Santiago Canon-Valencia.
