City of Salem to Host First-Ever State of the City Address Mayor Renée Turk to Highlight Growth, Accomplishments, and What's Ahead for Salem   SALEM, VA — The City of Salem will host its inaugural State of the City address on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Salem Civic Center. The event marks the first time the city has held this kind of address, offering residents, business leaders, and community partners a comprehensive look at Salem's recent progress and its vision for the future.   Mayor Renée Turk will deliver the address, sharing updates on the developments, accomplishments, and growth shaping the City of Salem. As Salem's first female mayor, Turk will speak to the city's continued momentum and the priorities that will guide its path forward.   Event Details Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2026 Location: Salem Civic Center 8:30 a.m. — Networking Breakfast 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. — State of the City Program   The morning will open with a networking breakfast, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with fellow community members, city officials, and local business leaders before the program begins. The address itself will run from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.   “Salem is moving forward with purpose, momentum, and a renewed sense of possibility. Our inaugural State of the City Address is more than a reflection on what we’ve accomplished — it’s an invitation to our residents, businesses, and community partners to join us in shaping what comes next. As Salem’s first female mayor, I am honored to share the progress we’ve made and the vision that will guide our future. This is a defining moment for our city, and I couldn’t be more excited for the path ahead.” — Mayor Renée Turk  Attendees can expect updates spanning economic development, infrastructure, community initiatives, and other milestones that reflect Salem's growth over the past year.   Members of the public, local businesses, and community organizations are encouraged to attend this inaugural event.

It’s time to fuel up for a great cause! The Salem-RoCo Chamber is partnering with the Vinton Chamber to support the incredible work of the Salem/Roanoke County Food Bank.  For over 10 years the Food Bank has provided snacks to local area schools—it’s called the ‘Snack Buddy’ Program, will you join us to help this cause?   The Need: Every month during the school year, the food bank delivers 80 bags of individually packed snacks to 38 elementary and preschools in 3 localities — Salem, Roanoke County, and Vinton.  Snack Buddy supports local kids by providing a snack to those who don’t have one. The Food Bank spends over $2400 per month to provide this food, so your help is greatly appreciated. We will be collecting individual snacks through the end of September.   Here’s the Challenge 👀   We’re turning this into a friendly competition! Which locality can rally the most snack donations this month?   🥊 Salem vs. Roanoke County vs. Vinton   Bragging rights are on the line!   How to Participate:   Collect individually packed, non-perishable snacks all month long at your place of business. Tag your donation with your locality so we can keep score. No time to shop, no problem. We can accept donations and shop for the snacks for you. Drop off at the Salem-RoCo Chamber or the Vinton Chamber or contact us and we can pick up! Watch for updates on who is in the lead!   Great snack ideas: granola bars, goldfish, fruit snacks, pretzels, raisins, applesauce pouches — anything easy for a kid to grab and go. (No items containing peanut butter please).    Let’s show up for our area kids and have some fun doing it. Which locality will take home the title?
