Men on a Mission is Highland Food Pantry's signature annual fundraising event to secure funds for pantry operations to provide food to families in need.  This event features men in the community who bring their favorite recipe to share with event goers.  We have 30 plus chefs who generously provide the food and their time to come together in fellowship at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on November 1 from 5-7 pm.  Tickets are $30 each and this year, we will use that money to provide a turkey or ham to every client family during November.  As always, ticket money is used 100% to provide food to those in need.  Chefs are needed and tickets are available for this event.

Highland Food Pantry's Annual Fundraiser:  "Men on a "Mission" Saturday, Nov 4, 2023, 5 PM First Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Loudoun Street (walking mall) This event is the pantry's annual fundraiser where men of the community become "chefs" for the night and bring their favorite recipe for participants to taste test and vote on their favorite dish. It is a fun night of fellowship where great food is available along with a silent auction. This year, our theme is "Celebrating Hometown Heroes" giving chefs the opportunity to honor the hero in their life.  Here are ways you can help:  1.  Become a sponsor and make a donation!  No amount is too small.  Checks can be mailed to the pantry at P.O. Box 1762, Winchester, VA 22604, or donate on-line at highlandpantrywinc.com to make a one-time or recurring contribution. 2.  Love to cook?  Dig out your favorite recipe and come join the team!  We are recruiting chefs, so men - please step up and truly make this a great "men on a mission".   Chef forms and information are available on the pantry's website. 3  Attend this beloved community-wide event! 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales is used to purchase food for distribution at the pantry.  Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the First Presbyterian Church office or at the pantry location any Tuesday during operating hours at 446 Highland Ave, Winchester, VA  22601.   We remained open during the entire pandemic period due to faithful, dedicated volunteers who knew the importance of feeding those who are food insecure.  Our client numbers are rising  as well as the cost of food.  We count on this fundraiser to continue to feed the community in need.  Due to a reduction of available no-cost USDA food from the local Food Bank, we are purchasing more food than ever before. Santmyers Student Union & Activity Center, 200 E. 8th Street, Front Royal, VA When: Saturday, November 8, 2025 Why: The event aims to grow rated chess opportunities in the local community, supporting both new and experienced players. Registration & Fees Early (online): $20 per player (EventBrite/PayPal) Late (onsite): $25 per player (PayPal/Venmo/Cash) Free Entry: Players with a current USCF rating over 2000—fee is deducted from winnings. Schedule & Format Start Time: Round 1 kicks off at 11:00 AM sharp. Early check-in recommended: before 10:45 for online registrants or before 10:30 for onsite. Finish Times: Most sections conclude around 7:00 PM; novice sections may wrap up earlier. Awards follow shortly after each section ends.
