In a world marked by rising anxiety, stress, loneliness, and ecological uncertainty, many of us are searching for ways to feel more grounded, connected, and hopeful. In this engaging and interactive book talk, counselor, educator, and author Dr. Heidi Schreiber-Pan shares insights from her newly published book, The Ground Beneath Our Work: Nature Informed Therapy and Care for a World in Need. Drawing from psychology, neuroscience, personal stories, and the wisdom of the natural world, Heidi explores how our relationship with nature can support emotional well-being, resilience, and a deeper sense of belonging. Participants will discover why nature is more than a backdrop for healing—it can be an active partner in reducing stress, regulating the nervous system, fostering connection, and helping us navigate life’s challenges. Through stories, reflection, and practical strategies, attendees will leave with a renewed appreciation for nature’s healing potential and simple ways to bring its benefits into everyday life.  Participants will: Understand how nature supports mental health, stress reduction, and resilience.Learn simple, evidence-informed practices for deepening connection with nature.Explore how nature can foster belonging, meaning, and hope during difficult times.Leave with practical ideas for incorporating nature into daily life and self-care.This is a free drop-in event. Taught by Jo Anne Iaciofano. Grab your mat, kick off your shoes, and join this Pilates-inspired class to improve body movement, core strength, and muscle control. This beginner friendly class, using mind-body connection and breath, will take you through a series of exercises with an emphasis on technique and fluidity. We will focus on those areas most stressed during gardening by using your core to power the muscles, increasing your energy and endurance. All levels welcome. Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to work out barefoot from standing to working down on the floor. Please bring a yoga or Pilates mat, towel, and water. Explore nature and create several different kinds of outdoor-themed art! We will meet with a local artist and participants will create their own individual art, as well as work together to create a collaborative art piece. We will also do wearable art and an audio and visual snapshot activity throughout the Garden. Participants should bring a phone/camera and a lunch. All materials provided. This workshop is for middle and high school youth. Youth ages 12 and older can fill out a waiver to attend without an adult. This workshop fulfills requirements for the Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Outdoor Art badges. We do not supply the official badge, but we do offer a fun patch. $35 BBGS member or scout/$50 individual.

Airing nationally on PBS this summer, Follow The Blooms is an adventurous floral journey where creativity meets nature in the most unexpected places. Traveling to small flower farms across the region and beyond, Katie seeks out fresh, vibrant blooms at their peak. But the adventure doesn’t stop in the fields! Katie takes these stunning flowers and transforms them into big, joy-filled, hands-on flower installations for communities to enjoy, while sharing the stories of growers, designers, and artists along the way. Katie Lila is the founder of Flowers For People and creator/host of Follow The Blooms, airing nationally on public television this summer.  She’s on a mission to bring flowers out of the background and into everyday life in ways that feel joyful, meaningful, and impossible to ignore. She’s always asking, What else can we do with flowers?  Through Flowers For People, Katie blends floral design, storytelling, community connection, and big visual moments to create work that helps people feel something. The breadth of fuchsia selections that can be grown in the Northwest is astounding. In any given year, there are about 100 different kinds of fuchsias on display, and most of them are winter-hardy in the Pacific Northwest.
