Open 12-5pm Saturday with "BLACK LAND / RED LAND" an exhibition of art and poetry curated by Margot Massey & David Coppin Lanegan in the Punch Gallery. With live performances on the Punch Stage 3-5pm.   This April, PUNCH handed the gallery space over to guest curators Margot Massey and David Coppin Lanegan for an exhibition that pairs visual art with written poems.   "BLACK LAND/RED LAND" invites the viewers to experience the natural alchemy between two given forms of art created separately from one another.   “Al-kimiya? is the Arabic word for ALCHEMY. It traces to the ancient Egyptian word kmt, simultaneously meaning ‘Egypt’ and…BLACK LAND. The nation of Egypt identified so heavily with the dark, fertile soil of the Nile Delta, that kmt also, in the ancient Egyptian context, implies a contrast to the empire’s surrounding desert, beyond the two literal meanings. Full of high strangeness, sand demons and demigods, this wasteland was called ‘deshret’, or…RED LAND.”   Margot Massey is a figurative artist based in Eastern Washington. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art at Central Washington University. Massey has exhibited her work at the New York Academy of Art SURP Exhibition (2025), the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery for the INTERSTATE: Where I-90 meets I-82 (2025), and a Gallery One exhibition in March 2025. @margotmasseyart   David Coppin Lanegan is a writer and singer from Central Washington, currently serving as the Inland Poetry’s Poet Laureate, and performing with The Black Velvet Band. His work appears in the Heartworm Reader No. 2. Scrubs Camp is a one-day workshop for high school students to explore health careers through instruction and interactive activities designed to increase awareness, interest, and understanding. Students will have the opportunity to practice hands-on skills that reflect work of medical assistants, nurses, behavioral health counselors, EMS, community health workers and many more careers.

Join us for the annual Valley-to-Valley Winemakers Dinner, our third collaborative fundraiser to support Helen House, TransRural Lives, and Gallery One. This year, we'll be featuring seven wines from RAM Cellars, Devium, Hoquetus, and Footprint Wine Tap. Chef Michael Johnson has prepared a special menu focusing on playful, collaborative, small plates, all of which speak to the accompanying wine. We'll also see the return of the Golden Ticket wine raffle, some bespoke ceramics, an operatic performance by Jeremy Irland, and a silent auction, all to support the community-based work of collaborative local nonprofits.  Beer, cocktails, and zero-proof options will also be available throughout the evening. The Winemakers Dinner will be held at Gallery One, 408 N Pearl, in Ellensburg, on Friday, April 24th from 5:30-9PM. Limited tickets are available at shop.gallery-one.org. National Civics Bee® Regional Competition – In Person Event Join us as we celebrate the next generation of leaders at the National Civics Bee® Regional Competition, hosted by the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. 📍 Location: Hal Holmes Community Center & Public Library 209 N Ruby Street, Ellensburg, WA 98926 📅 Date: Saturday, April 25, 2026 ⏰ Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. After months of preparation and essay submissions from middle school students across Washington State, top finalists will take the stage to demonstrate their knowledge of civics, government, and community engagement in a live competition format. This exciting, nonpartisan event highlights the importance of civic literacy and empowers 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to think critically about how they can strengthen their communities. Finalists will compete for local recognition and cash prizes: 1st Place: $650 2nd Place: $350 3rd Place: $175 The regional champion will advance to the Washington State Finals for a chance to compete in the National Championship in Washington, D.C. The National Civics Bee is organized by The Civic Trust® of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and implemented locally by chambers of commerce across the country. Through this initiative, we are investing in civic knowledge, workforce readiness, and the future leadership of our communities. Open 12-5pm Saturday with "BLACK LAND / RED LAND" an exhibition of art and poetry curated by Margot Massey & David Coppin Lanegan in the Punch Gallery. With live performances on the Punch Stage 3-5pm.   This April, PUNCH handed the gallery space over to guest curators Margot Massey and David Coppin Lanegan for an exhibition that pairs visual art with written poems.   "BLACK LAND/RED LAND" invites the viewers to experience the natural alchemy between two given forms of art created separately from one another.   “Al-kimiya? is the Arabic word for ALCHEMY. It traces to the ancient Egyptian word kmt, simultaneously meaning ‘Egypt’ and…BLACK LAND. The nation of Egypt identified so heavily with the dark, fertile soil of the Nile Delta, that kmt also, in the ancient Egyptian context, implies a contrast to the empire’s surrounding desert, beyond the two literal meanings. Full of high strangeness, sand demons and demigods, this wasteland was called ‘deshret’, or…RED LAND.”   Margot Massey is a figurative artist based in Eastern Washington. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art at Central Washington University. Massey has exhibited her work at the New York Academy of Art SURP Exhibition (2025), the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery for the INTERSTATE: Where I-90 meets I-82 (2025), and a Gallery One exhibition in March 2025. @margotmasseyart   David Coppin Lanegan is a writer and singer from Central Washington, currently serving as the Inland Poetry’s Poet Laureate, and performing with The Black Velvet Band. His work appears in the Heartworm Reader No. 2. On April 25, from 1-6 PM, as part of the Valley-to-Valley wine event, Gallery One will present Passport to Wine, our annual fundraiser showcasing wine from Walla Walla to Yakima Valley. This event offers a unique opportunity to taste, meet the winemakers, and purchase excellent vintages at great prices. For $25, you and your guests can enjoy five wine tastings and take home a Gallery One wine glass. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase wines and take them home on-site, all while supporting Gallery One.  While swirling, sipping and savoring wine, guests can also participate in a Silent Auction, showcasing excellent varietals donated by participating wineries.
