Students in Washington state are required to take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) in grade 5, 8, and 11 to measure their level of proficiency on the Washington State Science Learning Standards. At Park Place Middle School, our 8th grade students will be taking the WCAS test on May 20, 2025. This is a change from the previously communicated date. Results from this assessment provide meaningful feedback and data that we use to help students succeed. In addition, the results provide data to help evaluate school-level and district-wide instructional strategies, interventions, and other programs. LATE START FOR STUDENTS NOT TESTING On our WCAS testing day ( May 20 ), Park Place Middle School will be on a modified schedule to allow 8th grade students the best environment to maximize their focus and effort on the test. All 8th grade students must report to school at the regular start time of 7:50 a.m. 8th grade students who are not at school during this time will be marked absent. Buses will run at the normal times and breakfast will be served as usual. All 6th and 7th grade students will have a late start at 9:50 a.m. on May 20th. Buses will continue to transport students to school, but will arrive at stops roughly two hours later than normal times. Bus drivers will communicate exact bus stop times with students the week prior to the late start. Breakfast will continue to be served.
