Olympia Family Theater is thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming production of THE HOBBITby Greg Banks, Based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, With music by Thomas Johnson Directed by Rebecca Rogers, Assistant Directed by Jameson Dover, Musically Directed by Heather Matthews Olympia Family Theater is honored to be the first community theater in the world granted permission to produce The Hobbit, a beloved tale that, until now, has only been licensed to professional theaters! Our unlikely hero, Bilbo Baggins, would much rather be sitting in his cozy Hobbit Hole with a cup of tea and a plate of bacon and eggs. However, he somehow finds himself on a magically mystical adventure. Staged with speed and surprises, you’ll be delighted as things change before your very eyes. Discover what happens as Bilbo travels on an epic journey over freezing mountains and a frightening forest, meeting all sorts of fierce creatures, some who want to eat him, others who turn into dear friends Audition Requirements:Please take a look at the Full Rehearsal & Performance Schedule and make sure you don’t have any large scheduling conflicts!Link to full rehearsal schedule. Monologues: Please prepare two contrasting monologues. Memorization is not required you may have your monologue with you at auditions. Music Selection(optional): If you’d like, you can also prepare an acapella song no more than 30 seconds. This production features musical accompaniment including a few songs, but singing is not required for this audition. Callbacks – Monday Feb 23 – 6:30pm-9pm Casting Breakdown (Ages 16+ Only):We are casting Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin, Bombur, Kili, and Balin, as well as additional performers who will each play multiple characters throughout the production. Roles include a variety of creatures and characters, requiring physical storytelling, vocal flexibility, and collaboration. That is why we save 10 tickets for walk up purchase at the box office starting one hour before each performance. These tickets can be purchased at any price that fits your budget, including free. We encourage everyone to demonstrate compassion and actively help to combat incidents of bias or social stigma. Inclement Weather Policy Generally power does not go out in downtown Olympia. If our actors and technicians can make it to the theater, we’re doing the show. If things get really bad and we simply can’t stage the performance, we will notify ticket holders as soon as we possibly can and do everything possible to transfer tickets to a later date. If there are no tickets left for that particular production, ticket holders will receive vouchers for tickets to any other Olympia Family Theater production.
