This event is inspired by “World Fiddle Day” that began in Ireland, and has spread to various cities and countries. Harpers Ferry World Fiddle Day is organized in partnership with the Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Historic Town Foundation. Proceeds will benefit the revitalization of the First Zion Community Center, an historic building being renovated for use as a cultural center. On Friday May 16 -Saturday May 17, you’ll have the opportunity to hear exemplary musicians from the region who are specialists in traditional fiddle playing, the music of Appalachia, and beyond. Experience jam sessions, informative workshops, and concerts in the charming location of historic Harpers Ferry, WV. All events will be within walking distance of each other. Harpers Ferry – primarily due to Storer – also attracted permanent black residents, vacationers, entrepreneurs, and civil rights leaders like Frederick Douglass and W. E. B. DuBois. This walking tour sheds light on the diverse African American community that was concentrated along Fillmore and Washington Streets and in the West Ridge neighborhood from the late 19th through the mid-20th centuries and includes two historic black churches. Presenters at tour stops will include current and former Harpers Ferry residents.  There will be an ice cream social following this event. Proceeds from ticket sales will support the restoration of the historic First Zion Baptist Church. Tour will be limited to 40 adults.
