The Friends of the Boulder Junction Public Library will be holding a weekly used book sale every Tuesday from 8 am to 1 pm starting Tuesday, June 3 and going through Tuesday, August 26 as part of the Lion’s Club Craft & Flea Market at the Boulder Junction Community Center. Monies raised from the used book sale are used to fund new materials, programs, and supplies for the library. Books, audiobooks, and DVDs will be sold for varying prices.

This month’s program is “Crafting Effective Prompts for Genealogy with AI: Harnessing AI for Genealogy” with guest speaker, Angie Shumway by Zoom. In this innovative presentation, we will explore how you can leverage the power of AI tools like ChatGPT to revolutionize your genealogical research. Learn the art of “prompt engineering”—the skill of crafting precise and powerful prompts to guide AI in generating meaningful insights, translating documents, summarizing records, and more. The Boulder Junction Public Library welcomes the public to view their July Art in the Library exhibit featuring Boulder Junction fiber artist and quilter, Glennes Youngbauer. Meet Glennes and view her work at an Artist’s Reception to be held on Saturday, July 5 from 12:30-2pm. There will be a “Bed Turning” starting at 1:15pm displaying several large bed quilts with a description of the methods used in producing the quilts. Many of the quilts in this exhibit have been displayed and won awards at shows in American Quilter’s Society (AQS) Paducah, KY., Rosemont, IL., Destin, FL., Quilt Expo Madison, WI., Marshfield, WI., Eagle River, WI., Minocqua, WI and a month exhibit at Portage Museum. Whether you play an instrument and seek to learn more songs, or seek new musicians to play with, all are welcome to join Boulder Junction’s Northwoods Music Gathering (formally known as Music Collective). Bring your acoustic instrument, your voice, or just come along to listen to a gathering of music enthusiasts and have fun! This musical gathering is held the second Tuesday of each month from 5-7pm in the Boulder Junction Community Center or outside in the Lions Pavilion or Library Reading Garden, weather permitting . For the first hour of our gathering, we will choose easier songs that any ability level can play or sing along to, with chords and lyrics available to supplement. The second hour will be for more advanced songs, including those brought by others in the group. The Boulder Junction Public Library will be offering bi-monthly HeArt Centered Meditation Sessions with Lia Montgomery on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month starting at 10:30am. Join Lia Montgomery for guided meditation that meets that Middle Way where YOU are the center of your spiritual life, surrounded by a physical existence that requires your participation in big and small ways. Lia introduces you to meditation practice with a focus on how the breath, mantra, and quiet posture of the body, all work together to create stillness of the mind. Lia brings 45 years of meditation and a devout Buddhist practice in Japanese, Zen, and Tibetan traditions to her teaching and guidance. She holds a Master of Social Work degree. She is also the author of “Wandering: Lessons from the Heron and the Haul Road.” Lia currently lives in Presque Isle and offers individual spiritual guidance and training at Unwind Spa in Woodruff. The Boulder Junction Public Library presents local author, naturalist and educator, John Bates, on Thursday, July 10, 7 pm, at the Boulder Junction Community Center. Bates will present “Exploring Northern Wisconsin’s State Natural Areas”. Wisconsin’s State Natural Areas Program was created in 1951, the first such state-sponsored program in the United States. Today, 687 sites have been protected for their outstanding ecological, geological, or archaeological qualities. These represent the last great places in our state. Come hear about many of the best SNAs to paddle, hike and explore in northern Wisconsin. John Bates is the author of eleven books on the Northwoods and Upper Midwest, and a contributor to eight others. John has been featured on Wisconsin Public Television, PBS news “Brief But Spectacular”, and has been a frequent guest on Wisconsin Public Radio. He has worked as a state forest naturalist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and owns Trails North, a naturalist guide service. He also conducts outdoor classes for the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, the North Lakeland Discovery Center, and many others, and gives presentations to numerous organizations. For thirty-five years he has written a biweekly column, “A Northwoods Almanac,” for the Lakeland Times in Minocqua, Wisconsin. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
