Conversations will be about authors, literature, film, art, philosophy, poetry, history, or popular culture. Sometimes we will have expert guests, topic aficionados, or other library staff passionate about the discussed topic. This is a meet-up space for curious people; you don’t need to be prepared or have read anything to attend. Registration for this event is required. Participants are encouraged to follow the conversation's ground rules, provided at the event. Participants can help select future conversation topics. This is a Spanish/English-friendly meeting. Create traditional papier mâché skulls to celebrate Day of the Dead. Ireri Andrea Muñiz Ortega, a local Mexican folk artist, will guide participants through the process of creating the skulls from scratch in this three-part workshop. In this final part of the workshop, participants will be able to paint the skulls. Registration is required. Ireri Andrea Muñiz Ortega, artista folclórica mexicana, guiará a los participantes en el proceso de creación de las calaveras desde cero en este taller de tres partes.  En esta parte final del taller, los participantes podrán pintar las calaveras. Her journey into textiles began in 2017 through a photo embroidery workshop, where she discovered the richness of textures and stitches. Since then, she has explored diverse embroidery styles and textile techniques, deepening her connection to traditional arts. After moving to the United States in 2021, Ireri Andrea joined the Mexican Folk Art Collective, where she continues to celebrate Mexican traditions and share her cultural heritage. She has played a key role in the Driftless Region's Día de Muertos Celebration as an ofrenda (altar) designer, organizer, and artist. Alongside fellow members of the collective, she facilitates workshops and cultural programming in schools, libraries, and community centers. Her work highlights the beauty and significance of artisanal practices and the richness of Mexican folk art, while fostering cross-cultural understanding and community connection. Join Meadowridge Library in celebrating the Day of the Dead, a Latin American holiday honoring loved ones who have passed away. You can bring your family photos to add to the community altar created by local Mexican Folk Artist Ireri Andrea Muñiz Ortega, participate in arts and craft activities, and sample refreshments like Mexican hot chocolate and sweet bread. Library staff will be using the Mobile Archiving Kit to help digitize their family photos and print a copy for the altar. This is a bilingual program for all ages.
