Are you struggling to carve out time to write that novel, screenplay, or other work of fiction you've always been meaning to write? Are you battling writer's block? Are you looking for people to read what you've written and provide feedback? Try Pen Pals, an all-experience-levels-welcome group for fiction writers and fiction writer hopefuls! Once a week, bring in a laptop or notebook and surround yourself with other writers striving toward similar goals. During the first hour, we'll feedback-swap, discuss our projects, and brainstorm solutions to story issues. The remaining hour is all for writing! Times and frequency vary by location, so be sure to check the full schedule at madpl.org/vote before traveling.  You can register to vote ON SITE when voting absentee in-person. Voters who need to register due to a recent move or name change will also need to show an acceptable proof of address document. Voter registration is not allowed the three days before an election. An absentee voter must return their own completed absentee ballot to Clerk staff at in-person absentee voting locations, including Madison Public Libraries. The March discussion will focus on the Long Thread Podcast: Lynda Teller Pete (Season 6, Episode 4).  Listen to this episode prior to the discussion.  You can listen online here at no cost. About the podcase: Lynda Teller Pete, a fifth-generation Navajo weaver, lives in two worlds: the world of a traditional Navajo woman weaving exquisite tapestries, and the world of book author, curator, board member, world traveler. This podcast focuses on how she balances these diverse roles and is a story of energy, discipline, and family ties. About Textitles: Textitles is a free monthly discussion group for readings, watchings, and listenings (books, films, and podcasts) on textile and fiber art with a focus on historical, social, economic, and environmental concerns related to fibers, fabrics, makers/artists, techniques, use, value, and more. This discussion group is facilitated and sponsored by the Textile Arts Center of Madison with a different topic to read, view, or listen to, typically on your own before the discussion. As possible, some copies of book titles selected will be available for checkout through the Madison Public Library; however, in some instances participants will need to procure access to the media on their own.  Conversations take place in the Pinney Library Reading Room, featuring the inspiring permanent art installation titled Us, Midwest created by local artist Yeonhee Cheong. Please register for each conversation you wish to attend at the TAC website. About the facilitator: Angela Johnson is a professional artist, creativity coach and educator. She earned a master’s in Art Education, an MA in Art and an MFA with a focus in photography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her areas of artistic expertise include art journaling, alternative photo processes, bookmaking and box making, Creativity Coaching, and installation art. Angela’s work includes themes of nature, balance, and telling stories through individual and collective memories. She often incorporates scientific elements and concepts into her work. Collaborations with other artists and scientists energizes her creativity.  Johnson is a fixture in the Wisconsin arts scene, with 20+ years of experience maintaining public art studios, teaching workshops, facilitating programs, leading public art installations and lecturing at universities. She has worked in museums, elementary schools, senior centers, colleges and universities. She has inspired and helped people of every age — from toddlers to 95-year-olds — reaching far into the depths of their imagination to discover and channel their creativity. A junk journal is a handmade book made of repurposed, upcycled materials.  This book can be a place to tell your story through poetry, writing, drawing, ripping paper and gluing things together, cutting pictures out of magazines that you like...or however! There are no rules in junk journaling and no artistic experience needed! Come and relax and make something beautiful!  This program is intended for adults and youth, ages 8 and up.  Please bring any journal/notebook/planner that you have laying around that you'd like to repurpose.  We will provide magazines, stickers, interesting papers, and other crafting items, as well as glue sticks and scissors.
