A World Beyond: Reconstructing Our Reality A World Beyond offers opportunities to connect with others, create community and thus change our individual and collective realities, expand our knowledge and our imaginations. Ellie's residency at Pinney Library focuses on making art to decorate and change our environment and to imagine a different world.  On Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm, Ellie facilitates an art & community connection space for adults and teens (16+), together building a cozy, creative, encouraging environment each week.   Bring along a personal creative project-in-progress, reconstruct and refine your creation, or start something completely new in community with other makers.  Light assistance, nurturing artistic experimentation, and developing your creative practice(s) will be encouraged among attendees with an emphasis on textiles, fiber and stitching, jewelry making, beading, and drawing. < p> Ellie Braun's Residency at Pinney Studio: April 15 - October 15, 2025 Drop-in Open Studio: Thursdays, 6-8 pm a space and time centered around self-exploration and development of personal creative projects such as textiles, jewelry, and drawing.   In-Studio Creative Work Time & Workshops: TBD About the Artist Ellie Braun is a midwest-based artist currently residing in Madison, WI. Her work explores the tradition of craft, textile, and home decoration. She engages in a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, glasswork, tattoos, and textiles. < /p> 'In many non-Western cultures, color and pattern are used to communicate culture and celebration. The folk art of these cultures, made by the people for the people, creates symbolism and visuals that connect to the environment that surrounds them. Many of these works are hand-crafted, honest, and representative of the human experience.  Much of my work comes from the influence of folk art. Grottos, shrines, and textiles serve as main inspirations. Through extensive exploration and trial-and-error, I have created my own protectors, manifestations, and representation of my environment in my work. I utilize colored pencil, gouache, and hand-painted ceramics to create my pieces. My work largely focuses around color and pattern. I am interested in exploring the way patterns can create predictability and how the mixture of patterns can create organized chaos. The decoration of spaces can be used for ceremonies or everyday life. I am focused on creating work that celebrates the everyday and embraces chaos.' Once a week, bring in a laptop or notebook and surround yourself with other writers striving toward similar goals. The first hour will be dedicated to organizing feedback-swaps, discussing our projects, and collectively brainstorming solutions to story problems. The remaining hour is just for writing!
