Purpose:  This discussion group will focus on how local non-profit organizations can best support each other's organizations and the communities we serve. Your expertise and insights are invaluable, and we look forward to coming together to explore new ways to make a positive impact.  These meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month.   Audience:  Non-profit executive leaders/directors who have a direct, decision-making impact on their organization’s mission; programs and services administration; financials; and operations.  (Executive/Operations Directors, Chairpersons, Presidents, CEOs, COOs, CFOs, etc.). Participation:  At this time, participation is by invitation only and limited to Chamber member executives from active 501(c)(3) organizations to ensure a focused and relevant discussion for all attendees. Have you ever wandered around a farmers market and thought "That looks amazing . . . but what is it and how would I use it?" Most of us have, to be honest. Chef Andrew Dunbar returns to lead a walkthrough of the Manitowoc Farmers' Market during "At the Market with Andrew" for all the delicious items that are accessible in our community on Saturday, May 31, starting at 10 AM. After the walkthrough, we will spend some time together in the Balkansky Community Room creating something delectable out of items that we find at the Market. "What are we going to make," you may ask. Well, that will be determined by what wonderful, summery things we find that day!   Please Note: Everyone will meet outside the Library near the Main Entrance for the Farmers' Market walk-about. This tour of the Market is open to all that wish to gain a greater knowledge of how to purposefully shop it. However, registration is required for a limited amount of participants to attend the snack-making session that follows in the Balkansky Community Room. Registration opens at 9AM in Monday, May 12. Come back to www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/market-andrew-may31 then to secure your spot for this fun, healthful event! Should the Farmers Market be shut down due to inclement weather on May 31, this program will be cancelled, as well.

Want to improve your memory and concentration or practice logical thinking skills? Make a smart move and join us for Drop-In Chess Club at Manitowoc Public Library’s Second Floor Balkansky Community Room from 6-7:30 PM on Wednesday, May 7 and Wednesday, June 4! The game of chess offers many brainy benefits—and it's just fun! Those of all abilities and ages (6-years plus, please) are welcome, but staff will not offer formal instruction. Chessboards provided and library materials are available for further learning. No registration is required, but please remember that children under the age of 8 (even prodigies!) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Manitowoc Public Library is delighted to invite you to join Michael Perry—New York Times bestselling author and Wisconsin Public Radio contributor—at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus Theatre (705 Viebahn Street, Manitowoc) for an evening of storytelling and laughter on Thursday, June 19, at 6 PM.   Michael Perry is a farm boy turned humorist, New York Times bestselling author, volunteer firefighter/first responder, corporate speaker, and amateur snow plow driver from rural Wisconsin, known for leaving audiences laughing (and nodding, and sometimes getting misty) from his “reflective roughneck” takes on life in rural America.   Perry’s bestselling books include the volunteer firefighter memoir Population: 485, Truck: A Love Story, Coop, Visiting Tom, and Montaigne in Barn Boots. Among his other twenty-plus titles are The Scavengers (for young readers), his novel, The Jesus Cow, the essay collections Peaceful Persistence, Million Billion, and Hunker, and his most recent book, the deeply powerful novella, Forty Acres Deep. Raised on a small Midwestern dairy farm, Perry put himself through nursing school while working on a ranch in Wyoming, then detoured into writing. Get ready to tee off at the Chamber’s Annual Golf Outing! This event is a day filled with sunshine (well most of the time!) golf, banter, and good times with pals and coworkers. This event is a hot ticket, so reserve your spot before it's gone. All skill levels are welcome – let's make this golf day legendary! You will be asked to bring any drawing/giveaway prize and winner name/number to the raffle station, when you have concluded your day, to be posted there. If you are giving golfers gifts at your hole, plan for 144 golfers.
