On Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 3 to 6 pm, Mobile Museum of Art will host their annual Makers Market & Open House featuring an artisan market, live music, food trucks, art activities, and free admission to the Museum. “Our Makers Market represents the best of the Museum's mission statement: ‘To Bring People Together and Inspire Creativity through the Power of Art,’” said Executive Director Jon Carfagno. “Each year, this program is a highlight of the summer months, a day filled with smiles and fun for visitors of all ages.” Vendors will be offering a variety of handmade items, such as jewelry, pottery, self-care products, and more. Dennis Gould will provide live music, and tasty treats will be available from Shux Yall, frios, La Fruiteria & La Taqueria, LuLu’s Sno Shack, and TH Station. The Museum will also have galleries full of masterworks by renowned artists in special exhibitions, including: • JUAN LOGAN: Without Stopping, a special exhibition by internationally celebrated artist Juan Logan titled Without Stopping, which features an epic commissioned painting of the same name. The 6 ½ by 16-foot composition is Logan’s response to his learning about the people and histories of Africatown. • Vuzumazulu: The Black Solarium — An Abantu Cultural Expose by Abaddon “Apollo” Ben Yakongo: Step into Vuzumazulu: The Black Solarium, a mystical journey through time and heritage that awakens the soul. This exhibition unveils the hidden stories of Africa’s past, reconnecting us to the profound depth of Abantu culture. • CRYPTIC UNDER WING: Glass and Mixed Media by Rachel Wright — This exhibition utilizes glass, photographs, and textiles to create sculptural work about the natural world. Through her exploration of the Delta and the surrounding area, Rachel explores the relationship between the local rivers, lakes, and creeks, and the organisms that reside within and in tandem with them. • The family-favorite installation, Fantastical Forest. This interactive installation explores the intersection where nature and art meet. It was designed by local artist Lucy Gafford with the help of Ben Kaiser and Vanessa Quintana. During the Open House, the whole family can gather in our Education Wing to make an art project inspired by the exhibitions currently on view at MMofA. Admission to the Museum will be free all day in addition to the afternoon activities. The Museum's exhibitions and programs are supported by the City of Mobile, Mobile County, The Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Join Anchor Cross Cancer Foundation for our 6th Annual Masquerade Ball on Saturday, June 14th, at the Daphne Civic Center. Support those fighting cancer in our local community and celebrate the survivors with this “mask-themed” ball, complete with live music, food, drinks, red carpet and so much more. We encourage all attendees to dress up for this event in your best masks, wigs and masquerade attire! Cancer patients in active treatment can also enjoy “pre-party pampering” with make-up artists, hair stylists and a masseuse. Each ticket purchased donates funds to Anchor Cross Cancer Foundation, a local non-profit that offers financial assistance to local cancer patients for everyday needs like utility bills, co-pays and transportation to treatment. Last year’s event saw a tremendous increase in participation and raised over $75,000, with all of the proceeds benefiting local cancer patients in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. We are so thankful to our donors and sponsors who generously gave and allowed our event to be such a success. Air Race Classic opens January 2, 2025! The 48th Air Race Classic (ARC) will be held June 17-20, 2025.  Women pilots from across the United States and around the world will take off Tuesday, June 27, from H.L. "Sonny" Callahan Airport in Fairhope, Alabama, for a 2,426 statute mile competition across 9 states that ends Friday, June 20, 2025, at Felts Field in Spokane, Washington. The oldest race of its kind in the nation, the Air Race Classic traces its roots to the 1929 Women's Air Derby, aka the Powder Puff Derby, in which Amelia Earhart and 19 other daring female pilots fraced from Santa Monica, California, to Cleveland, Ohio.  This year's ARC celebrates the 96th Anniversary of that historic competition.  Teams will begin departing H.L. Callahan Airport at 8am Tuesday, June 17, 2025, taking off one after another approximately 60 seconds apart.  From there, the field will spread out as faster planes move ahead or as racers use their own strategy for when to fly.  Faster planes may complete the route in only two days; slower planes may not arrive at the Terminus in Spokane, Washington, until moments before the arrival deadline at 5pm on Friday, June 20. Teams consisting of at least two female pilots will complete the course flying normally aspirated, piston-powered airplanes in visual flight conditions during daylight hours.  Pilots and copilots muist have at least a private pilot certificate and a minimum of 100 hours as pilot-in-command to qualify for the race; one of them musdt have at least 500 hours as pilot-in-command or a current instrument rating.  Teams may include additional female teammates who must hold at least a student pilot certificate.

We recently held our first evening meeting in Spanish Fort, and it was a great success. We are excited to continue these meetings to allow members and prospective members in the northern part of the Eastern Shore to attend a meeting close to home and to allow individuals whose schedule conflicts with our lunch meeting to attend meetings.   Our speaker for the July evening meeting has spent almost his entire life in Baldwin County-creating personal ties that inspired a career of service to the community he grew up loving. Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack is currently serving in his 5th term as Baldwin County Sheriff. Over his last 18 years in office, he has proven his integrity, dedication and devotion to the community that elected him. Continually serving his community, Sheriff Mack has held office in the Robertsdale Rotary Club as well as the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, and he has sat on the boards of the Baldwin County Economic Alliance and Boy Scouts of America. He has also been recognized for his service with a number of awards.

Learn all about some of the most famous winged residents of the Delta on this two-hour journey through one of the richest bird habitats in the nation. Our knowledgeable guide will especially focus on acquainting guests with eagles and ospreys, but also give attention to the several varieties of hawks, owls, and kites that frequent the region. While we won’t be able to guarantee an eagle sighting on every trip, we’ll explore the lower reaches of the Delta rivers where these majestic birds are most commonly found during the season.
