The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge encourages all Alabamians to walk, run, hike, bike, swim, paddle, or ride 100 miles each year by visiting the state’s beautiful parks, preserves, and rivers with their friends and family. Historic Blakeley State Park is proud to be a part of this special initiative of the Alabama Trails Commission and the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development. Blakeley’s event will feature a 2 mile-hike along a portion of our incredibly-preserved Civil War battlefield guided by park staff. Come explore our beautiful natural environment while learning about the park’s unique cultural heritage! Riviera Utilities is inviting the community to celebrate the return of one of nature’s most remarkable travelers during its first-ever Welcome Back Monarch Day, taking place Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 9 to 10 a.m. in Foley. Designed to educate and inspire, the event highlights the annual migration of monarch butterflies while encouraging residents to take part in protecting native pollinators and plant species essential to the Gulf Coast ecosystem. The morning will begin at the Foley Civic Center (407 E. Laurel Ave.) with a presentation from Carmen Flammini, an agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, who will share insights on monarch migration and how native pollinator gardens play a vital role in sustaining these iconic butterflies. Following the presentation, attendees will “migrate” next door to the Riviera Utilities Native Pollinator Garden (413 E. Laurel Ave.) for guided tours and a milkweed plant and seed giveaway—providing participants with the tools to create pollinator-friendly spaces at home. Children and families can also enjoy hands-on crafts and activities hosted by the Foley Public Library at both locations, making the event an engaging experience for all ages. It is believed it helps in improving health by lowering stress, cholesterol, and blood pressure, assists in managing a variety chronic conditions, and strengthens the immune system. Optional group hike after class. Our instructor, Annie Allen, is a certified Yoga/Qigong instructor who has been teaching people this practice for over a dozen years. She teaches this technique for the Baldwin County High Football team and serves as a Business Education teacher for the school. She is also a Spanish Court interpreter.

The Jamboree combines fun activities, entertainment, and meaningful outreach to inspire greater community involvement, encourage foster and adoptive families, and strengthen support networks for local children in need. Attendees can expect a day of connection, information about foster care resources, opportunities to learn how to get involved, and family-oriented entertainment. Each spring, the Baldwin County community gathers on Belrose Avenue in Olde Towne Daphne for a unique test of endurance, shared resolve, and purpose. Ballin’ on Belrose returns for its fifth year on May 16, 2026—bigger, bolder, and with even more impact. Inspired by the 29029 Everest Challenge, where participants climb the equivalent elevation of Mount Everest, Ballin’ on Belrose brings that same spirit to Baldwin County. While there are no mountains locally, the event centers around a demanding half-mile hill on Belrose Avenue. Participants complete 11 climbs—totaling 10.5 miles—to match the height of Everest, all within a three-hour time limit. The fastest recorded time to complete the challenge is approximately one hour and ten minutes. Hosted by 68 Ventures, the Cox Family Foundation, Press & Co., and the City of Daphne, the event is rooted in the guiding principle of Luke 12:48: “To whom much is given, much is required.” This belief drives the mission behind Ballin’ on Belrose—to leverage resources, create impact, and bring people together for something bigger than themselves. “Ballin’ on Belrose is a reflection of what can happen when a community decides to show up for something bigger than itself,” said Nathan Cox. “We’ve been blessed in ways we don’t deserve, and this event is one way we try to steward that well—by creating opportunities to give back, to serve others, and to make a real difference in the lives of families who need it most. This year, we’re raising the ante because we believe the impact can and should be even greater.” Growing Impact The 2025 event delivered record-breaking results: 400+ participants 90 sponsors $259,000+ raised Building on that momentum, 68 Ventures is aiming even higher in 2026. We recently held our first evening meeting in Spanish Fort, and it was a great success. We are excited to continue these meetings to allow members and prospective members in the northern part of the Eastern Shore to attend a meeting close to home and to allow individuals whose schedule conflicts with our lunch meeting to attend meetings.   Our speaker for the July evening meeting has spent almost his entire life in Baldwin County-creating personal ties that inspired a career of service to the community he grew up loving. Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack is currently serving in his 5th term as Baldwin County Sheriff. Over his last 18 years in office, he has proven his integrity, dedication and devotion to the community that elected him. Continually serving his community, Sheriff Mack has held office in the Robertsdale Rotary Club as well as the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, and he has sat on the boards of the Baldwin County Economic Alliance and Boy Scouts of America. He has also been recognized for his service with a number of awards.
