Learn the basics of family history research and start building your family tree! This free workshop will cover family history research strategies, genealogy websites and databases, and organizing the information. The attendees will then work in small groups with volunteer instructors to develop individualized strategies for their own family tree research. Class participants will receive some prework to help them start building their family trees. The workshop will be taught by volunteers from the Los Altos Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Inspired by the book 10,000 Memories, the exhibition was developed in collaboration with The 1947 Partition Archive, a Berkeley-based nonprofit. Debuting in Los Altos before traveling statewide and beyond, the exhibition features first-hand accounts, photographs, and multimedia storytelling from those who experienced Partition, or whose family lived through it. Following the fall of the British Indian Empire and the creation of India and Pakistan, millions were displaced amid widespread violence. The exhibition explores this unmemorialized event, the rise of communal violence, and the impact of polarization issues that resonate today. A cherished community tradition since 1947, this free event brings together hundreds of participants and their pets—from dogs and cats to birds, turtles, and more—for a fun-filled parade along First, Main, and State Streets. Registration is required for all participants, whether joining as a group or individually, so be sure to sign up in advance and look out for your assembly area details the week of the event. On the third Tuesday of the month, this program is to enhance public safety and communication in the town. This program was created to give the Sheriff's Office the chance to interact more successfully with the citizens they serve each day. The event goal is casual, one-on-one conversations between residents and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. There are no speeches or agendas. This is an opportunity for you to meet your neighborhood members of the Sheriff's Office in a relaxed environment, build bonds, and share ideas to make our communities even better.
