Join Kruthika Tanniru in The Gift of Giving, where you can learn to crochet in the cozy setting of Blue Back Square while giving back to your community. Whether you've mastered crochet patterns or never picked up a hook in your life, this program is for you! At the end of this series you will know how to read crochet patterns, design your own, teach crochet to others, and turn a hobby into something so much bigger. You will also have the opportunity to donate your items to the toy drive at Connecticut Children's Hospital. Join the Bonsai Society of Hartford for a captivating and hands-on introduction to the ancient art of bonsai, including the history, horticulture, and aesthetics of bonsai cultivation. Whether you’re a curious beginner or an art enthusiast, you’ll discover how living trees are shaped over time to become idealized representations of nature in miniature. This presentation is part lecture and part “show and tell.” In addition to the talk, there will be a display of live bonsai trees, pots, specialty tools, and various soils and materials used in the craft. Come see, touch, and learn what makes bonsai a unique blend of horticulture, design, and patience—and how you can get started yourself. Vincent Tanner is the President of the Bonsai Society of Hartford (BSH), an educational nonprofit whose mission is to cultivate interest in the art of bonsai by offering educational programs, hands-on experiences, and public exhibits that inspire. Vincent has been a member of BSH 2022 and President since 2023. As President, he’s organized study groups and workshops with local and international bonsai masters, developed educational programs for libraries and garden clubs, and curated public exhibits that have been seen by thousands of people throughout Connecticut.Registration required. He is a featured bass soloist performing in jazz festivals throughout the United States. In 1992 he served as co-chairperson of the Music Advisory Board for the National Endowment for the Arts.
