New Zealand Pen Pal Program--Every Day!Thanks to a partnership between South Coastal Library, Kent County Library, and Wellington City Libraries, you can now have the opportunity to connect with a New Zealander! This is a fun way to learn about another country and make a new friend. We handle all the international postage - you bring in and pick up your letters at the library.How to sign up:Fill out a registration form. Registration forms are available at the library and online. Click here to register online. Parental permission and signature is needed for anyone to participate under the age of 18. Please register all persons under 18 in person at the library.Wait! After you are registered, library staff will work to match you with your New Zealand pen pal! Please be patient.Get matched! You will be notified with the full name of your pen pal and some basic information. Please use their full name when addressing envelopes!How the program works:Write your letter and drop it off at your library. Be sure to address it clearly!When your letter arrives from New Zealand, you'll be notified! Just stop in to the library to pick it up!Respond to your pen pal and write another letter! Drop it off again and we'll send it to New Zealand for you! Your return letter will come back to us, just as before.We will be sending and receiving monthly packages of letters! Continue your correspondence with your pen pal each month!We encourage participants to use caution when/if including personal information in their letters.

Their results capture the essence of Bethany, including French fry-stealing seagulls, gorgeous tulip gardens, the Chief Little Owl monument, and so much more!All ages are welcome to view this art show for free during library open hours now through March 12, 2026. Can't make it in before March 12? No worries--all artwork will also be displayed at the Bethany Beach Town Hall in April 2026.Art supplies for the 2026 Tiny Art Show were made possible by South Coastal Library and CHAC of Bethany Beach. Looking to squeeze in some fitness and yoga during your day? Then try our FREE Lunch Break Core Yoga Class at the South Coastal Library with Sarah Schaber, RYT-500 certified yoga instructor. This 40 minute all levels yoga class focuses on strengthening the abdomen and lower back while stretching away tension and stress. This may also help improve energy levels and fight that afternoon or midday fatigue! We will be moving through various positioning (i.e. lying on our backs and abdomen, seated, hands and knees, and standing.) In order to ensure all participants' safety, we do ask that you are able to move and reposition independently.      Bring a mat or towel, water bottle, blocks if you have them, and yourself. Are you interested in learning how to play the American version of Mahjong? The South Coastal library is offering a free 3-part series on the basics of Mahjong taught by local instructor Lisa Stern. At the end of the three lessons, you should have a better understanding of how to play so that you can join a local group in your area. The game requires a commitment to the learning process, a positive attitude, and takes some practice. Each lesson is 2.5 - 3 hours long so light snacks will be provided but please feel free to bring a non-alcoholic drink with you. 2025 Mah Jong Large Print cards are available to borrow for this class and we will also have tile sets for in-house use. The purpose of this class is to learn how to play the game and games played are just for fun. No gambling is allowed on library property. Dates: February, 6, 10 & 13 | Meeting Room BRegistration is limited and required and opens 2 weeks in advance of the first class. Register once for the entire series.

The meeting in February of 2026 is cancelled. Calling all history fans! This book club is for you! We will meet on a select Tuesday most months to discuss a different historical fiction book at the South Coastal Library. Occasionally, we may choose to discuss and read a nonfiction title or a biography, however, most months will focus on historical fiction. Light snacks are provided. Have questions, ask for Kristin. This month we will be reading an older historical fiction novel, Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen. Did you know there is also a movie? While we will be focusing mostly on the novel, we will also briefly discuss the film for comparison and comment.
