Sunday, August 17, turns the Marsh River Theater into an old-time party featuring award-winning country, old-time, and American Roots duos Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms and Golden Shoals. From 4 PM to 6 PM, each band will perform a dedicated set, showcasing original compositions and traditional tunes. Beginning at 7 PM, caller Chris Ricciotti will lead a community square dance, inviting dancers of all ages to join the fun. Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms bring their celebrated blend of classic country, old-time, trad bluegrass, and original American Roots music to audiences around the world. Known for crystal clear harmonies and driving songs, the duo has anchored the Pacific Northwest roots scene with their work in the Foghorn Stringband and the Caleb Klauder Reeb Willms Country Band. Golden Shoals is a fiddle and guitar duo with a "rousing old-time-style music that’s fueled by acerbic modern-day wit” (No Depression Magazine). They are no strangers to traditional music, having placed in contests including Clifftop (3rd place 2023, 4th place 2022), Mount Airy, The Grand Masters Fiddlers Championship and Galax. Often switching instruments between fiddle, two guitars, and banjo, their original songs have been compared to Gillian Welch, with the added edge of instrumental prowess informed by energetic old-time and bluegrass recordings. Concert Sets: 4–6 PM (each band plays one set) Bring your instruments to jam between the concert and dance! Welcome to the most capable and versatile boatyard in northern New England. Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine, is a yacht yard, marina and storage facility on Penobscot Bay with an expansive facility and broad capabilities. We cater to the needs of every type of vessel ranging from small recreational boats to commercial vessels and superyachts. Front Street Shipyard is an expansive, thriving yard with deep-water frontage, state-of-the-art equipment and a forward-thinking workforce. Guided tours run every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer into early fall. There will be a quick overview of some of the projects they have going on, their waterjet cutting machine, and a tour of several of the buildings (with projects inside).   Duration 40-60 minutes. Anyone who has an interest in drawing from the figure can join this ongoing, long-running, non-instructional group. Join us on Tuesdays for a short pose, non-instructional, gestural group. Arts on the Hill: Sugar Snaps   Camden - Coastal Mountains Land Trust’s Arts on the Hill program brings the Sugar Snaps band to Beech Hill Preserve on Thursday, August 21 at 6:00 p.m. as part of this popular summer concert series.   The Sugar Snaps are a high-energy 8-piece R&B band from mid-coast Maine. Featuring powerhouse vocals and a classic horn section, the Snaps bring to life the rich back catalog of lesser-known funk and soul tunes sprinkled with occasional popular hits by artists like Maceo Parker, Sharon Jones, Stevie Wonder, Ann Peebles, Al Green, and the Meters.   The band features the powerful pipes of Ms. Emma Theobalds; the nasty brass of Julian Stearns (trumpet), Steve Orlofsky (saxophone) and Adam Tangarone (trombone); the slick stylings of guitarist Will Field; the funky fingers of keyboardist Mo Lotman; the pulsing palpitations of bassist Adam Nordell; and the syncopated skins of drummer Willy Crichton. PRINTMAKING OPEN STUDIO (FRIDAY) @ Waterfall Arts Fridays, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST   Start a new project or finish something you have started. Don’t let your lack of studio equipment be an obstacle! Waterfall Arts has well-furnished and staffed facilities for artists of all skill levels to drop in and work independently on their own projects. In addition to providing a workspace and tools, the studios at Waterfall Arts provide a forum for sharing ideas, developing techniques, and experimentation, as well as an opportunity for building community. Artists working in all disciplines are welcome and encouraged to get involved. Drop-in rates are $20 for a 3-hour session. Maximum 5 artists during Open Studios. About the Studio Monitor: MF Morison hails from the west coast where she was primarily known as a metalsmith, apprenticing under Stieg Gusterman (Georgetown, CO) and Thomas Schlicting (Amsterdam). Using acid etch in many processes, she continued to explore this medium, resulting in attending S.F. Art Institute, studying printmaking under the tutelage of Michi Itami. While in SF, MF also worked out of U.C. Berkeley Open Studio and Fort Mason Print Department. Upon her arrival to Midcoast Maine, MF shelved printmaking for a time until she became aware of the Waterfall Arts Printmaking Studio. Since then she has been consistently enthralled and engaged with printmaking, primarily working with copper plate intaglio etching with use of embossment and chine colle. Produced by Lights Out — a statewide arts organization dedicated to promoting Maine artists — this special evening will feature new work by Allison McKeen. Enjoy art, conversation, and community as we open the doors to this exciting new space. Allison McKeen is a self taught interdisciplinary artist living and working in Gardiner, Maine. Her quilted paintings make a visual language of color and form out of fabric scraps and fragments. These sewn paintings bridge practices of quilting and drawing, making lines and shapes of the diverse textures and colors of found fabric.

Local Color Gallery Presents New Works by Lindsay Hopkins-Weld and Welcomes New Gallery Member Jim Williams   Local Color Gallery is pleased to announce Coastal Reflections, a guest exhibition featuring the oil paintings of Maine-based maritime painter Lindsay Hopkins-Weld. The show opens on August 19, 2025, and will run through September 21, 2025. At the same time, the gallery welcomes Lab Art by new year-round member: Jim Williams of Belfast.   Living near the ocean, Hopkins-Weld draws inspiration from the ever-changing moods of the sea and the relentless cycle of the tides. Her paintings are a testament to her deep connection with the coastal environment. “My paintings evolve from observation, persistence, life experience, experimentation, and photography,” says Hopkins-Weld. “I strive to depict the essence, beauty, and vibrancy of place and the fleeting moment in time. My approach blends realism with abstraction, focusing on the play of light, color, and shape.”   Beginning August 19, Local Color “goes to the dogs” as the gallery debuts Belfast artist Jim Williams. Williams calls his paintings Lab Art, for their focus on images of Labrador Retrievers. His boldly-colored minimalist works capture the essence of one of Maine’s most popular dogs.   After 22 years working in various corporate environments, Jim began taking art courses. His new-found passion for painting and his love for his Labrador Retrievers led him to switch careers when he opened Mainely Labs Studio gallery in Portland in 2005. For many years Williams participated in Belfast’s Arts in the Park. He and his wife were impressed with the town and began thinking of relocating here. In the fall of 2024 that dream came true, and Williams is very excited to be joining the Belfast artistic community. He states that what he creates is not just for art’s sake or for his own sake…but for others. He feels great satisfaction when someone values his paintings enough to hang in their home.   An opening reception will be held during the Fourth Friday Art Walk, August 22, from 4-7 PM at Local Color Gallery. Both Lindsay Hopkins-Weld and Jim Williams will give short talks beginning at 5:30. PRINTMAKING OPEN STUDIO (SATURDAY): KENNEDY PRESS @ Waterfall Arts Saturdays, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST   Start a new project or finish something you have started. Don’t let your lack of studio equipment be an obstacle! Waterfall Arts has well-furnished and staffed facilities for artists of all skill levels to drop in and work independently on their own projects. In addition to providing a workspace and tools, the studios at Waterfall Arts provide a forum for sharing ideas, developing techniques, and experimentation, as well as an opportunity for building community. Artists working in all disciplines are welcome and encouraged to get involved. Drop-in rate is $20 for this 3-hour session. Maximum 5 artists during Open Studios. About the Studio Monitor: MF Morison hails from the west coast where she was primarily known as a metalsmith, apprenticing under Stieg Gusterman (Georgetown, CO) and Thomas Schlicting (Amsterdam). Using acid etch in many processes, she continued to explore this medium, resulting in attending S.F. Art Institute, studying printmaking under the tutelage of Michi Itami. While in SF, MF also worked out of U.C. Berkeley Open Studio and Fort Mason Print Department. Upon her arrival to Midcoast Maine, MF shelved printmaking for a time until she became aware of the Waterfall Arts Printmaking Studio. Since then she has been consistently enthralled and engaged with printmaking, primarily working with copper plate intaglio etching with use of embossment and chine colle. “Belfast, When the Cows Were Still Wearing Pajamas” will be the topic of the Belfast Historical Society’s meeting at 7:00 pm, August 25, in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library. David Ruberti, Historical Society vice-president, will take the audience on a time travel back to a gentler time in our city. The evening will feature a myriad of postcards and images of a bygone era in our little burg. You will see downtown, neighborhoods, churches, schools, businesses, the waterfront and some fun. David shall be your tour guide. The Belfast Historical Society presents talks of local historical interest on the 4th Monday of the month from April through October. All presentations are in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library and are open to the public. Seating is limited to 75. FMI visit BelfastMuseum.org or call 207 338-9229. Welcome to the most capable and versatile boatyard in northern New England. Front Street Shipyard in Belfast, Maine, is a yacht yard, marina and storage facility on Penobscot Bay with an expansive facility and broad capabilities. We cater to the needs of every type of vessel ranging from small recreational boats to commercial vessels and superyachts. Front Street Shipyard is an expansive, thriving yard with deep-water frontage, state-of-the-art equipment and a forward-thinking workforce. Guided tours run every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer into early fall. There will be a quick overview of some of the projects they have going on, their waterjet cutting machine, and a tour of several of the buildings (with projects inside).   Duration 40-60 minutes. Meet at the corner of Building #5 by the Harborwalk path (big green building after Front Street Pub & Harborwalk Restaurant on the waterfront).

LIFE DRAWING SHORT POSE (NEW NIGHT!) @ Waterfall Arts Tuesdays @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm $15.00   We’re moving back to Tuesdays when the building is officially open!! Please do your best to register online so we have a contact list in case of cancellation.  The longest running group of its kind in Midcoast Maine, (AND the only group that offers twice-weekly sessions!) our life drawing group at Waterfall Arts began over a decade ago. Anyone who has an interest in drawing from the figure can join this ongoing, long-running, non-instructional group. Join us on Tuesdays for a short pose, non-instructional, gestural group. The format will be variable, starting with quicker poses and ending with a more lengthy pose each session. $15 per session *Looking for a discount and a warm-up drawing session?
