Sing songs, listen to stories, and act out rhymes at this storytime for the youngest of library visitors. There will be toys available after storytime ends.  Ages Birth-2 years, older siblings welcome.  The Spring session is indoors in the Storytime Room, with windows open to increase air circulation and followed by play time.  The Winter session begins on Monday, April 7 and runs through Monday, May 19, except for April 21 (Patriots' Day). This is the May meeting of the library's book discussion group Book Mill. The group will meet in-person at the library but will also have a Zoom option available for those who prefer to join from home.           This month we will be discussing Long Island by Colm Tóibín. Meetings last under an hour and a half, although at times they spill over enthusiastically. Any reader who enjoys reading with a questioning mind, entertaining diverse perspectives, and sharing their thoughts is welcome to join us for one or many Book Mill meetings. Virtual. Register directly on Zoom HERE. The Massachusetts Library Collaborative's 50+ Job Seekers Group meets via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30am to 11:30am. Informal networking takes place from 9am to 9:30am and 11:30am to noon. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your "Encore Career," this networking group program is perfect for you! Remember, 85% of jobs are found through networking! Join us in a professional forum for networking with peers in a safe and comfortable environment conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Each meeting features a new topic. Meetings include a presentation and interactive workshop on topics relevant to career transition, guest speakers, access to hiring managers, small group breakout rooms to network, and 1-on-1 coaching guidance. Participating on a regular basis will give job seekers the many tools and strategies needed for a successful job search. Each biweekly meeting is facilitated by Deborah Hope, MBA, PCIC, an experienced executive career coach. Deborah is a former Fortune 500 executive, investment banker and entrepreneur. She transitioned to executive coaching over 12 years ago. Deborah has coached with Harvard Business School Executive Education programs and the Massachusetts Conference for Women. She has been trained or certified in a variety of coaching models and assessment tools. REGISTRATION LINK: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEpd-uqrT8rEtD5iNHupk09Txyy5qAobsdS We are offering this Zoom presentation to help high school juniors and their parents understand how to use the upcoming summer productively to create a compelling college application. We will cover the college application process including current admissions trends, writing the personal statement essay and supplemental essays, teacher recommendations and how students can position themselves to increase their chances for admission. We’ll discuss how a student’s ability to express their insights, experiences and personal growth through their application essays are more important than ever before. We will discuss application strategies including the advantages and disadvantages of early decision, early action and regular decision. We’ll review what factors students should consider in deciding whether or not to submit their standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) for test-optional colleges and universities. We’ll also discuss the different ways that students can be admitted to a particular school. We’ll examine the holistic admissions review process, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. We will also discuss the importance of community service, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and an opportunity to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others. This program is a detailed and strategic overview of what students should focus on to make their college applications compelling.
