Try Aequora and see how Latin can improve your critical and analytical thinking, language arts skills, and problem solving! Aequora is an outreach program of the Paideia Institute, designed to be an engaging, relevant, and inclusive introductory Latin curriculum. The Aequora curriculum will introduce the basics of Latin vocabulary, grammar, Roman culture, and mythology through interactive activities, hands-on story-telling, and exciting games. Such activities include matching games and puzzles, acting out skits and plays, creating crafts that the Romans used to make, and (safe) relay races. More importantly, Aequora is designed to engage the student's critical and analytical thinking skills, whether through re-enacting a famous ancient battle or a serious discussion about the outdated societal norms enacted by the Romans. This class is led by Aaron Z as part of our Teens Teach program. This class will meet on Thursdays throughout the fall. WATCH THE MOVIE ON YOUR OWN⌠then come to the club to discuss it. A discussion like a book club. The movie will not be shown at this meeting. Snacks provided! This month's movie: Local Hero (1983) A British comedy-drama film written and directed by Bill Forsyth and produced by David Puttnam. It stars Peter Riegert, Burt Lancaster, Denis Lawson, Peter Capaldi, and Fulton Mackay. With a musical score composed by Mark Knopfler ("Dire Straits"). Riegert plays an American oil company representative who is sent to a village on the west coast of Scotland to purchase the town and surrounding property for his company.  The local reaction is not what he suspected. The film received critical acclaim, and holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was nominated for seven BAFTA Awards and won Best Direction for Forsyth. The British Film Institute ranked the film as one of the Top 100 British films of the 20th century. The Library has copies on hold for the Film Club. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your "Encore Career," this networking group program is perfect for you! Join us in a professional forum for networking with peers in a safe and comfortable environment conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Each meeting features a new topic. In it, he explores Indigenous identity in proximity to land that serves as an iconic vacationing spot for the wealthyâthe âisland paradiseâ Marthaâs Vineyard. Growing up Aquinnah Wampanoag, Joseph Lee grappled with what it means to be an Indigenous person in the world today, especially as tribal land, culture, and community face new threats. Starting with the story of his own tribe, which is from the iconic Marthaâs Vineyard, Lee tackles key questions around Indigenous identity and the stubborn legacy of colonialism. Lee weaves his own storyâand that of his familyâwith conversations with Indigenous leaders, artists, and scholars from around the world about everything from culture and language to climate change and the politics of belonging. As he unpacks the meaning of Indigenous identity, Lee grants us a new understanding of our nation and what a better community might look like. Try Aequora and see how Latin can improve your critical and analytical thinking, language arts skills, and problem solving! Aequora is an outreach program of the Paideia Institute, designed to be an engaging, relevant, and inclusive introductory Latin curriculum. The Aequora curriculum will introduce the basics of Latin vocabulary, grammar, Roman culture, and mythology through interactive activities, hands-on story-telling, and exciting games. Such activities include matching games and puzzles, acting out skits and plays, creating crafts that the Romans used to make, and (safe) relay races. More importantly, Aequora is designed to engage the student's critical and analytical thinking skills, whether through re-enacting a famous ancient battle or a serious discussion about the outdated societal norms enacted by the Romans. This class is led by Aaron Z as part of our Teens Teach program. This class will meet on Thursdays throughout the fall. Itâs an opportunity to have an enjoyable afternoon listening to music, socializing with others who understand and to explore new things.  Musical Memories with John Poirier will perform at the November 7th Memory CafĂŠ. John & Linda Poirier have a duet repertoire featuring songs from the 50s through the 90s with crisp vocal harmonies. They also pride themselves on audience engagement including sing-a-longs. Join us in unfolding the magical world of Origami, designed exclusively for young children in grade levels 2 and 3. The art of Origami is known to help children build motor skills, enhance spatial reasoning, understand symmetry and observe patterns as they transform ordinary paper into extraordinary creations.   This class is being offered on the first Saturday of every month, October through May.
