Artist reception Friday, August 1, 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Judy Fox –I have always loved art. As a young girl, living in Manhattan, my spiritedmother often took me to art museums and encouraged me to be creative be it in dancing, music, or painting.At various times in my life, I took painting classes, studied life drawing, didpen and ink doodles, sculpted and played with clay, but it was aboutfourteen years ago that I seriously began to pursue art after taking whatwas called a “late bloomers” class in the Berkshires with Phyllis Kornfeld.Since then, I have rigorously pursued artwork in different mediums andmaterials.I love the whole creative process, the unknown aspect of literally oftenstarting from nothing – no idea, no concept or image before me and justmoving my pen or paintbrush to paper and seeing what emerges. It really isthe process that excites me.

Deborah Golden Alecson, M.S. is a retired professor in the field of thanatology (death, dying, and bereavement). She taught for the Schools of Health Science, Nursing, and Humanities at Excelsior College. In addition to the courses she taught, she developed a course in medicalhumanities for Excelsior College which she also taught prior to her retirement.  She is the author of Lost Lullaby (University of California Press, 1995), We Are So Lightly Here: A Story About Conscious Dying (IntoPrint Press, 2014), Complicated Grief: A Collection of Poems (Finishing Line Press, 2014) and Alternative Treatments for Children Within the Autistic Spectrum (Keats Publishing, 1999). She wrote a monthly column for The Berkshire Eagle entitled “Musings on Mortality.”Ms. Alecson has been a fervid advocate for death with dignity. She is a volunteer coordinatorfor the organization, Final Exit Network, and has facilitated a Chosen Death Forum for the Network.
