The annual Friends of the Great Falls Public Library Book Sale is May 7-9 and May 14-16 on the third floor of the Library. The Regular Price sale is May 7, 8 and 9, the Half Price Sale is May 14 and 15 and the Sack Sale is on Saturday, May 16. Items available include used books, movies, music, games, puzzles, and more! All of the money raised goes to support the Great Falls Public Library. In past years, funds from the Friends book sale supported: • GFPL participation in Partners by paying for Courier service and supplies.• Continuing to pay for the complimentary parking spots on 2nd Avenue.• Supporting purchase of book sets for Library Book Clubs.• Wowbrary subscription for weekly electronic newsletter.

Montana author Brenda Wahler joins us at the Library to discuss her latest book, Marcus Daly’s Montana Empires With business savvy honed in the West’s rowdy mining camps, Marcus Daly rose from poor Irish immigrant to Gilded Age magnate. From the mines of Butte, Montana, to America’s largest smelter in a town he also named Anaconda, Daly’s Anaconda Copper Company made a fortune. He used it to build his dream-a Bitterroot Valley ranch and a horse racing empire that stretched from California to New York. Meanwhile, his gregarious and generous facade hid a sly manipulator, one locked in a battle for political dominance with rival copper king W.A. Clark. With detailed research and more than one hundred photographs, historian Brenda Wahler peels back the layers of a complex industrialist, revealing his historic influence and legacy. Cassiopeia Books will be on site to sell copies of Brenda’s book.

Laurie will read an excerpt from her book “The Return,” highlight her research, which lends fact to her fiction, and we will have a meeting of our (human) minds with a Q&A. Laurie Stevens, the author of the Gabriel McRay novels, has won multiple awards. In regard to writing thrillers, Suspense Magazine says she’s “the leader of the pack,” while International Thriller Writers claims she’s “cracked the code” of writing psychological suspense. Her latest novel, The Return, switches gears into sci-fi/fantasy and is currently up for a Nebula Award.
