The Safe Place Bereavement Group is here to support you through the ups and downs of loss. Our group provides a welcoming environment where you can share your experiences, express your feelings, and learn coping strategies. While your grief is unique, finding comfort in connecting with others who face similar challenges can be reassuring. Grieving is a process that requires your attention, and there’s no single “right” way to do it. Though joining a grief group might feel daunting, many have discovered it to be an invaluable resource. Remember, you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. There are six classes in the series. The Ossipee Mountains stand as a remarkedly circular range of mountains and hills just south of the Sandwich Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The highest peaks rise nearly 2,500 ft above the waters of nearby Lake Winnipesaukee. This unique landscape was ultimately created by the cataclysmic collapse of a volcano approximately 120 million years ago. In this talk we will examine the geologic evidence for this remarkable event that can still be discerned despite millions of years of erosion that has removed many thousands of feet of rock. Every landscape has a story to tell and in this talk you will learn how to read the incredible story of the Ossipee Mountains. About the speaker Robert M. Newton, Professor Emeritus of Geosciences for Smith College, Northampton, MA holds a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire, M.A. from Binghamton University, and a Ph.D. from University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He served as Professor of Geosciences at Smith College for over 40 years. He has taught courses in physical geology, geomorphology, groundwater geology, glacial geology and climate change. He mapped the glacial geology of the Ossipee Lake Quadrangle for the State of New Hampshire in 1974. A legacy letter (also called an “ethical will”) is a written document that allows you to share your life lessons, express your values and transmit your blessings to future generations. A legacy letter is not a formal legal document or a full-length memoir; it’s a brief personal statement, typically just a few pages. Writing one is a rewarding experience that creates an enduring gift for your family, friends and loved ones. This workshop is designed to introduce the concept of legacy letters and to help you craft your own legacy letter. It includes discussion and brief writing exercises. Jay will offer advice to help you complete your legacy letter, share it with loved ones and preserve it for future generations.  Jay Sherwin has practiced law, given away money for five charitable foundations and served as a hospital chaplain. Drawing on all those experiences, Jay created the Life Reflections Project to educate people about legacy letters and ethical wills; he now teaches classes and workshops on legacy writing and helps people create their own legacy documents. Taught by Sue Graffam on Mondays and Wednesdays.  "As a certified instructor from Dr Paul Lam Tai Chi for Health Institute, I will teach Tai Chi for Beginners. As a retired RN, I enjoy this health practice, it has been easy to learn and a lot of fun. Tai Chi is a mind body practice which can increase your focus, balance, strength and flexibility. With practice you can learn the foundational movements in this form. Please note that sessions will build on each other. Participants are requested to commit to the full series. Registration closes after the first class or when it fills up.  Please wear loose clothing and flat bottom footwear suitable for exercise. New Hampshire writer and outdoor enthusiast Linda Magoon presents a talk about her experience climbing all of New Hampshire's 48 4,000-foot mountains when she was in her late 50s and how she used hiking to re-discover her sense of autonomy. Linda's book Live Free and Hike: Finding Grace on 48 Summits is available for checkout at the Library. About the speaker Linda Magoon is an environmentalist and outdoor enthusiast. She reconnected with her love of hiking after ending a difficult marriage and set out to climb all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks. Now Linda writes and empowers others on the mental and physical health benefits of the outdoors. Her outdoor essays have been published in various magazines. She is a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and NH Writers’ Project.
