Urban Naturalist Bruce Rosenberg will lead a tour to examine over twenty plants and trees in the Arboretum that have medicinal qualities and are used to treat physical and mental conditions. All of these plants can be grown in your own backyard and are available at local nurseries. He will also briefly discuss some of the active chemical constituents of those plants which help to fight infections, inflammation and a host of other ailments.  Registration required.Meet at the Garden entrance.

Every Saturday from April to November join the Lasdon Green Squad to keep Lasdon, Westchester’s Public Garden looking beautiful. Volunteers will work with Lasdon staff on tasks such as invasive species removal, planting, watering, weeding, trail maintenance, mulching, trash clean up, and other tasks. The scheduled tasks will rotate weekly throughout Lasdon’s 234 acres. This event is for Volunteers 14 years or older.You must be registered to participate. Come in weather appropriate clothes (coat, rain gear, hat sunscreen, insect repellent), closed toed footwear and pants are required. Gloves and tools will be provided. Please bring your own snacks, lunch, and water bottle.

Your guide will provide prompts to appreciate the abundance of the season and to take notice of our natural surroundings. Participants may stop and sketch or write, or walk ahead at their own pace. You may choose to share or listen. Your observations contribute to our creative collaborative nature study journal. This is an outdoor program.
