Join us for our Business Advocacy Meeting on February 5, as a panel of local leaders and experts provides updates on several topics and issues affecting our local businesses. At the meeting, the Salem Chamber's contracted lobbyist, Nicole Palmateer Hazelbaker, will talk about the opening days of the 2026 Legislative Session and the key bills that have emerged, including the ones that businesses should be aware of. We'll also hear from Matt Geiger, Executive Director of the Chemeketa Small Business Development Center, who will share an update on the center's current activities and how business owners and employees can benefit from its services and educational opportunities. Representing the Salem Main Street Association, TJ Sullivan will provide insights into downtown activity during the holiday season and discuss the status of public safety in the downtown area. Saalfeld Griggs Attorney Garrett Urrutia will also join us to provide an important update on employment law for business owners and employees in the State of Oregon. Our Impact Our Mission To inspire and enable all youth, grades 1-12, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO NEED US MOST, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens through the development of a positive self-image and self-reliance. Why Great Futures Start Here For over 55 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion and Polk Counties has delivered on our promise to provide the youth who need us most with support to reach their full potential. Through a comprehensive continuum of services, we provide children and teens with a platform for success by equipping them with the necessary life, academic and career-related skills to thrive in a 21st Century global society. We operate 8 Clubhouses and Teen Centers in addition to a Health & Dental Services Center, T3: Training Teens for Tomorrow workforce development program, community athletic leagues, and outreach programs to schools and communities. In 2024, we served 9,354 youth, many of whom are from economically disadvantaged homes, qualify for free or reduced lunch, and live in single-parent households. Our goal is to deliver programs that prepare youth for a great future. This begins with the imperative to provide a safe environment that keeps kids engaged, active and happy in the hours after school and during the summer and prepares them with the a skill set that aligns academics with future career pathways and industry trends. Leadership Salem is a two-year program allows individuals: Exclusive access to decision-makers and experts in their community. Focused skill development. Create lasting bonds with current and future community leaders. This yearly leadership development cohort focuses on helping the next generation of leaders multiply their impact. Program Overview Leadership Salem has two primary goals: Preparing motivated individuals to serve in impactful leadership roles throughout our community. Developing key career-long relationships for professionals within vested businesses and nonprofit organizations across the Salem community. Participants receive a comprehensive overview of the Salem area – its realities, opportunities, and challenges. Leadership Salem is a strategic cohort designed to have participants meet key business, government, and nonprofit leaders and decision-makers, while receiving an introduction to community resources by way of tours, panels, and speakers. Each of the 10 one-day sessions focuses on a different theme: Team Building, Community History, Legal/Criminal Justice, Natural Resources, Business & Commerce, Local Government, Education, Community Resources, Leadership, and a unique-to-your-cohort Community Project. The first year concludes with a community service project. Participants meet once a month for 10 months (September-June) and receive a comprehensive overview of the Salem area’s realities, opportunities, and challenges.
