It offers a supportive environment for grievers to gather and work on any crafty projects they wish to bring. For those who don't have their own projects, we provide adult coloring books and puzzles. Occasionally, there may even be a group craft project. Coffee and tea are provided, and you’re welcome to bring a snack to share!   Thursday September 18th, 2025 – Friday November 7th, 2025 Wilson College Shares Letterpress Printing in New Art Exhibit Wilson College will present an exhibition of work by artist Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. in the Bogigian Gallery, Lortz Hall, from September 18th through November 7th, 2025. The College will host an opening reception starting at 4:30 PM on September 18th. Titled “Amos Paul Kennedy Jr.: Citizen Printer,” the exhibition showcases Kennedy’s dynamic approach to letterpress printing, blending traditional techniques with contemporary design sensibilities. Known for his bold, layered compositions and distinctive typographic style, Kennedy’s work invites viewers to engage with language, color, and form in fresh and thought-provoking ways. Working with handset wood and metal type, Kennedy emphasizes the physical labor and tactile beauty of the traditional printing process. His method of overprinting vibrant colors in dense, rhythmic layers results in visually striking pieces that allow chance and repetition to become part of the message. No two prints are ever the same as each carries its own visual weight and emotional resonance. The Library of Congress, Emory University, and the Newberry Library, among others, house Kennedy’s work, which is recognized for its combination of wit, insight, and craftsmanship. This exhibition celebrates letterpress printing as a medium of artistic dialogue and cultural expression. The title “Citizen Printer” is based on a recent book about Kennedy, published in 2024 by Letterform Archive Books, San Francisco.

As we see the composition of the group, we might try to develop more specific groups in 2022 (i.e. bereaved spouses with school age children, bereaved older adults, etc.). But we'd like to come together first as a diverse group to see how we can best meet the needs of grieving spouses. *If you need childcare, we need you to register for the group so that we can have volunteers on hand to provide children?s activities during the adult meeting time.

Before the Carlisle Courthouse was built, the Widow Piper's Tavern was used for Cumberland County court sessions from 1750 to 1751. It was built around 1735 by Samuel Perry and is believed to be among the earliest west of the Susquehanna River. The building was being used as a tavern by Widow Piper by 1740 and was probably Shippensburg's earliest public house. Travelers frequently stopped overnight. Women and moneyed people slept upstairs. Drivers slept on pallets on the downstairs floors. The house is now the home of the Shippensburg Civic Club. Docents give tours on the second Saturday of the month from 1 pm to 4 pm, April through November. For private tours, call 717-532-5978.
