POLLY BESSETTE Thursday, May 22 PLAYING IN THE TAP ROOM Show Time 7pm | Free | 21+   Polly Bessette is a singer/songwriter from Warren, Rhode Island with a passion for lyricism and folky tunes. Her music captures the ears of many through her raw and thoughtful recollections of universal growing pains in the sweetest of sounds. Polly's music is inspired by late 1960s folk, indie folk, and Americana. Polly was nominated for a 2024 RI Motif Music Award for Best Folk Act. She was placed on the Official Ballot for the 67th annual Grammy Awards for her songs 'Sane Baby' and 'Little Confessions' both for Record of the Year and Best American Roots Performance. Marley began performing in 1979 at 11 years old, and he spent the next two decades as the front man of his siblings’ band Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. The group released nine studio albums before Marley went solo in 2003 with his debut album, Dragonfly. Across eight independently-released solo albums, Ziggy Marley has logged five No. 1s on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart including 2011’s Wild and Free and 2018’s Rebellion Rises. As a solo artist and as bandleader for Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Ziggy Marley has won eight Grammys and a Daytime Emmy Award. Sign up is by the following age groups: Explorers (ages 4 to 6) Scientists (ages 7 to 9) Adventurers (ages 10-13) Animal Curators (ages 13-15)* Our science-based curriculum introduces students to the wonders of the natural world. New topics are covered each week through hands-on activities, meeting live animals, games and time for nature play and socialization. Sign up for one or all of the classes. Classes have a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 14. There are two teachers per age group. Please bring a snack and water bottle to each class. Be prepared to go outside in all weather conditions! *Please note that our Animal Curator Program does not follow the same curriculum as above. Students are immersed in hands-on activities working with our resident and rehabilitating wildlife. Activities include cleaning and setting up tanks, providing enrichment activities for wildlife and learning more about the care of wild and resident animals. Students alternate animal care tasks with hikes, nature journaling and other group activities at DPNC. This program is limited to 6 students and has one instructor. Thursday, May 29 6-8p | Free Whether it's a song, a style, an idiom or an image, Duke Robillard will render it with mastery, power, nuance and an unerring grasp of its essence. Born Michael John Robillard on October 4, 1948, in Woonsocket, R.I., Duke has carved out one of blues' most illustrious legacies, while also trodding some lofty related territories as a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, bandleader, studio sideman, producer, label operator and educator. After showing an early affinity for music and guitar, he founded Roomful Of Blues with pianist Al Copley in Westerly, R.I., in 1967. By adding horns, Roomful announced itself emphatically as the prototypical jump blues band, and became a New England legend and a fixture beyond, as did Duke himself. His unsurpassed mastery of the guitar style of T-Bone Walker (later crystallized memorably in his 2004 release "Blue Mood") was deservedly heralded, but his breadth was also head-turning - from swing, standards and ballads to rockers, gutbucket Chicago blues and rockabilly. By the time Duke left Roomful after a dozen years, he was firmly established in the upper echelon of contemporary blues guitarists. Duke went from Roomful to a stint with rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon and then to the first iteration of the Legendary Blues Band, composed primarily of then-recent Muddy Waters sidemen. The Duke Robillard Band debuted in 1981, re-emerging as The Pleasure Kings with their eponymous 1984 album on Rounder. It and its sequel, "Too Hot To Handle," burnished Duke's songwriting portfolio; the 1987 jazz outing "Swing" (with saxophonist Scott Hamilton) underscored his versatility and remains a highlight. Continuing his solo career, Duke replaced Jimmie Vaughan with The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1990. He cut his own much-awaited straight blues album "Duke's Blues" in 1993 for Canadian imprint Stony Plain, leading eventually to a rewarding, continuing and prolific alliance, along with releases during the ensuing years on Point Blank/Virgin and Shanachie, as well as instructional videos. He has also launched his own labels with Jesse Finkelstein, Blue Duchess/Shining Stone. Duke's prolificity has included producing albums by Billy Boy Arnold, Joe Louis Walker, Rosco Gordon, Jimmy Witherspoon and Jay McShann, Zuzu Bollin, Billy Price and Otis Clay, Sunny Crownover, Bryan Lee and Al Basile as well as recording two collaborations with Herb Ellis, a pairing with his successor in Roomful, Ronnie Earl, a seat in the New Guitar Summit with J. Geils and Gerry Beaudoin, additional studio credits with Bob Dylan (the well-regarded 1997 "Time Out Of Mind"), Ruth Brown, Johnny Adams, Pinetop Perkins, Snooky Pryor, Al Copley, Todd Sharpville and Tony Z, and touring with Tom Waits in 2006. Duke's resume is decorated with Grammy nominations, Handy Awards and Blues Music Awards, and other honors for his artistry, recordings and productions within the United States and internationally. On his latest release, "Duke Robillard and his Dames of Rhythm" on M.C. Records, he wields an acoustic archtop and joins six thrushes for evocative and enjoyable renditions of 1920s and 1930s swing tunes; it's a worthy successor to his 2016 BMA-winning "The Acoustic Blues And Roots Of Duke Robillard." Duke remains based in Rhode Island and a whirlwind as a musician, producer, gardener and photographer. But wait, there's more: he's now creating fine art abstract paintings, too! Together, the Boys have self-released three albums, Lifelong Vacation, Dancing on the Wind, and Paradiso. Their fourth, Sonic Ranch, was produced by Money Mark (Beastie Boys, Beck) at the legendary Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas. The entire process was captured by director Robert Holguin for his feature-length comedy-rock-doc Blood, Sweat and Beers or How The Sloppy Boys Made an Album on a Farm in West Texas. Walk, run, or ramble on our three-mile course, starting at Coogan Farm and rambling through the trails of the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center on Saturday, May 31st at 9:00 am.   The Ramble takes place along natural trails, rough terrain, and bridged water crossings.  Children aged 11-15 who can walk the 3 mile course may be registered as “youth” participants; children 10 and under are free; non-walking children may be carried; strollers are not allowed.   Friendly dogs on leashes may accompany participants. Gene Parise Sunday, June 1 Playing in the Tap Room Show Time 8pm | Free | 21+ Gene Parise, also known by his solo moniker Kozmik Riffs; is a Southern RI based lifelong musician/guitarist/singer-songwriter/. He performs solo as well as collaboratively in various duos and trios, sharing his original songs and also performing in his own unique style some of the truly revered great folk/rock/country and Americana songwriters.  Gene was the guitarist with the Easy Goin’ band for nearly two decades after which he helped found the classic rock band Retroactive from 2003-2008.  He then co-founded the beloved band Wheelhouse which performed for nearly a decade; featuring some of the finest musicians in the region. In recent years, he has been a member of the trios, Men With Guitars. and Kozmik Katz.  In 2010, Gene founded and hosted a weekly Open Mic at Perks & Corks in Westerly RI where he also managed the live entertainment, booking music 6 nights a week till 2020.  In essence, Gene Parise along with his years of experience brings emotion and integrity to every song he performs. His playing and singing are soulful and heartfelt. He only performs the songs he "believes in”; great covers and originals, each of them entertaining, each of them honest.
