The Machine has forged a 30+ year reputation of extending the musical legacy of Pink Floyd. The New York-based quartet performs a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-albumrepertoire, complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems. With stellar musicianship and passionate delivery, The Machine explores collective improvisation rivaling that of an early 1970’s Pink Floyd, while their use of expanded theatrical elements and elaborate stage displays and lighting continues The Floyd spirit of the 1980’s. The band is also known for recreating entire albums as a part of their show, accepting requests from fans, and for taking an A-Z approach in which one song is played for every letter of the alphabet. The Machine has sold out theaters, premier showcase rooms and casinos across North America, Europe and Asia, performed at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Riverbend, and Gathering of the Vibes, and shared the stage with full symphony orchestras, including the Atlanta, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Charlotte and San Diego Symphonies, as well as the Buffalo Philharmonic. The band features founding member Tahrah Cohen (drums), longtime bandmates Scott Chasolen (keys, vocals) and Ryan Ball (guitar, vocals), and newest member Chris DeAngelis (bass, lead vocals). The band continues on to celebrate the music of Pink Floyd and to honor the life of Joe Pascarell, who co-founded the band with Tahrah in 1988.

On Cape Ann, the name “Dogtown” conjures up many things — vast woodlands and trails; stone walls and cellar holes; tales of witches and widows; an ill-fated bullfighter; pastures, picnics and blueberries; a sea of rocks. Dogtown is all of these things and more. But first, it is a place where proud people once lived and worked, at the center of Gloucester, for nearly 150 years – until it became “Dogtown” and died out.  This tour will take you down the main roads of this early settlement, to meet some of the people, see where they lived and hear their stories. You will learn how Dogtown got its name, why people left, and how it has changed in the 200 years since the last house came down. You will hear about writers and artists who were inspired here, and reservoirs that were built here. Finally, you will see some of the inspirational word-boulders along the trails that are the lasting legacy of entrepreneur and philanthropist Roger Babson (1875-1967), and a symbol of the enduring nature of this special place called Dogtown.  This walking tour is three miles and will take approximately two hours. The route is over hiking trails that are generally easy, but uneven, with rocks and roots underfoot. Hiking attire and footwear advised; also, walking poles if you use them. Bring water and insect repellent. The tour will start at the main entrance to Dogtown, off Cherry Street. Meet at the parking lot a short distance up Dogtown Road, on the right. There is parking for a few cars in the lot; otherwise, park along the right side of the road, after the parking lot, or along Cherry St. Please arrive 10 minutes early. We are so blessed to have this time and space to move our bodies freely, without judgement, to dance our prayers and dreams together.  We gather on the first Sunday of every month at the Floating Lotus on Main Street in Gloucester. Join us for this celebration of life. Feel free to join for the full event or just drop in for a while. We usually start with a warm up of yoga or meditation followed by movement and listening to live music presented by Jon and Lisa and friends.  $10-$15 suggested donation. Kids are free.

Please join Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) on Tuesday, June 3rd at Rockport Music for a night of science by the sea with renowned aging scientist Steven Austad, Ph.D. Come to hear Dr. Austad tell stories of some extraordinary animals, considering why, for example, animal species that fly live longer than earthbound species, and why animals found in the ocean live longest of all. Dr. Austad's approach to studying aging differs from the usual approach found in the field of aging science. Instead of focusing on species with short lifespans like fruit flies and mice, which are experimentally manageable but unsuccessful at combating aging, he investigates nature’s biggest successes, like a 400-year-old shark or a 200-year-old whale. He suggests we should research long-lived species — instead of those with short lifespans — and use them as models for discovering novel anti-aging products and processes. Opening remarks and Q & A with Andrea Bodnar, Ph.D., GMGI's Donald G. Comb Science Director. About Natasha Originally from the small Caribbean island of Grenada, Natasha immigrated to the United States in 1992 and has lived in Essex, Massachusetts since 1999, drawn to Cape Ann by its coastal beauty and strong sense of community, so reminiscent of her Caribbean upbringing. With a lifelong penchant for volunteering, she quickly found a deep connection specifically in Essex both professionally and through volunteer service. Working at her family's Market in Essex, she got to know the people, volunteering at the Museum, she gained an appreciation for the culture. Natasha also holds a Bachelor of Science in Cartography, her professional journey has been as diverse as her background, including working as a food stylist for film and photography for over 17 years. Since 2003, she's been an active volunteer with the Essex Historical Society & Shipbuilding Museum (EHSSM), an organization that aligns with her love for history, culture, the environment and hands-on community involvement. Natasha joined the board of directors in 2015, working closely with other members and volunteers to further strengthen her commitment to the organization and its mission. In 2021 she took on the role of Office Manager, where she helps oversee daily operations and community programs, working closely with other Town departments and organizations. Permanently setting her roots here in Essex, Natasha lives, works and continuously encourages her family and others to volunteer within the community. From stick figure doodlers to first-rate talents, join us for a seaside, Plein Air sketch class with Sue Wheeler of Arts Abound in Magnolia. All skill levels are welcome! This two-hour session includes a 30-minute beginner sketch lesson. All you need to bring is a sketchbook, pencils, a ruler and an eraser. Please note: watercolors, pastels, oils, or acrylics are not permitted on the Museum grounds. Attendees who wish to tour the Hammond Castle Museum after this class are entitled to a 20% discount on a self-guided tour. Tour tickets may be purchased in the Museum Shop before 2:30 p.m. on the day of this class. Parking is free. There are many stairs leading from the parking lot down to the Museum. A Glimpse of Revolutionary Life Middle Street in Gloucester is the site of many early colonial homes with connections to the American Revolution. Come learn about these historical buildings and the stories of the people who built and lived in them.  Join us Thursdays for a unique experience. Led by a CAM docent, these deep dives into a single artwork or object from the Collection will begin with conversation, a short presentation and complimentary coffee at the Carlson Center, followed by a special trip to the James Center to view the object being discussed. DOWNLOAD WINNER'S BIO Ipswich Small Business Weeks Reception Kerrie Bates of Ipswich ReCreation & Culture is the 'Small Business Person of the Year' Winner from Ipswich. Join the Greater Cape Ann Chamber in celebrating her win at True North Ale Company in Ipswich.​ About Kerrie It started with a spark—literally. A handful of bonfires on the Ipswich River ignited what would become Ipswich Illumination. Through careful kindling and extraordinary collaboration between the creative community, local businesses, and town government, what began as a playful public art project has evolved into the ReCreation & Culture Department, stewarding a year-round roster of custom cultural traditions that celebrate beauty and reinforce community. It was the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce that first recognized the potential to harness this creative synergy in service to the business community, and Kerrie was invited to consider taking on management of the Ipswich Visitor Center. At the heart of her calling was a deep desire to serve her neighbors and friends. Informed by the maxim “Think Globally, Act Locally,” Kerrie believed that by celebrating local history and heritage, a welcoming window to the wider world would naturally emerge. She was hired by the Town in 2011. The term “ReCreation,” with a capital "C," was coined to emphasize the creative aspect of re-creating ourselves and our community through play. Then–Town Manager Robin Crosbie expanded the scope by adding “Culture,” further focusing Kerrie’s efforts on energizing downtown and supporting local business—a capital idea, indeed. The work, she says, is a veritable kaleidoscope of collaboration. Each project clusters together a custom constellation of contributors. Chief among her consistent collaborators is Town Historian Gordon Harris, who curates and maintains HistoricIpswich.net—a digital treasure trove dedicated to the town’s rich history and an ongoing wellspring of inspiration. It is in celebration—and on behalf of the entire creative community—that Kerrie receives this recognition. Kerrie lives beside the Ipswich River in a First Period home with her husband, architect Daniel W. Bates, where they’ve raised two grown sons, Hudson and Parker. She enjoys riding her bicycle, walking and talking with family and friends in Ipswich’s open spaces, and dancing on the roof of her homemade houseboat. DOWNLOAD FLYER

The Cape Ann Community Foundation is excited to host its second annual Candlepins for a Cause at Cape Ann Lanes on Thursday, June 5 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. Bring a team of bowlers to support the Foundation and take part in their grant awards presentations. Sign up with a team of six bowlers to fill a lane or sign up individually to be placed on a team.  Join us as we celebrate the organizations and programs supported by the Cape Ann Community Foundation and help raise funds to continue our work. Since 2015, the Foundation has awarded $100,000 in grants to non-profits in Essex, Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea and Rockport, using proceeds from the sales of the Cape Ann License Plate and supporter donations. We are assembling 16 teams of six bowlers at $200 for a full team of six. If you’re an individual bowler, the donation is $35, and if you’d like to be there to cheer on our bowlers entry is a $20 donation to the Foundation. Everyone will have an opportunity to meet past grant recipients and acknowledge the organizations supported in the past.

From stick figure doodlers to first-rate talents, join us for a seaside, Plein Air sketch class with Sue Wheeler of Arts Abound in Magnolia. All skill levels are welcome! This two-hour session includes a 30-minute beginner sketch lesson. All you need to bring is a sketchbook, pencils, a ruler and an eraser. Please note: watercolors, pastels, oils, or acrylics are not permitted on the Museum grounds. Attendees who wish to tour the Hammond Castle Museum after this class are entitled to a 20% discount on a self-guided tour. Tour tickets may be purchased in the Museum Shop before 2:30 p.m. on the day of this class. Parking is free. There are many stairs leading from the parking lot down to the Museum. All proceeds from this program will support the restoration of the Hammond Castle Museum.

First Cape Ann Artisan Tour for 2025 with 14 home studios open for tours Cape Ann Artisans are part of a vibrant arts community, located along the scenic North Shore of Massachusetts. The Tour is self-guided of artists’ studios in Gloucester and Rockport. Both areas are also home to three important Massachusetts designated Cultural Districts – downtown Gloucester, downtown Rockport, and Rocky Neck. 2025 marks the 42nd year for the Cape Ann Artisan Tour as the oldest “open studios” in the country.

Designing, building and installing a pipe organ is often a years-long process from initial client meetings through design, shop construction, installation, and voicing, to the dedicatory concert. At this Gallery Talk, Greg Bover will discuss the collaborative process along with the history of C. B. Fisk.    Greg Bover retired from C.B. Fisk, Inc. in 2020 after 42 years as Project Manager, designer, and Vice President for Operations. He supervised the design and construction of more than thirty Fisk instruments in churches, concert halls, and academic institutions across the United States and around the world, including The Memorial Church at Harvard, the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, organs at Kobe and Yokohama, and the firm’s magnum opus at the Cathedral in Lausanne, Switzerland.      Greg lives in Rockport with his wife Maureen Aylward. Long active in community building, he is a Past President of the Sawyer Free Library and the Gloucester Rotary Club.  He continues to serve on the Government Affairs Council of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, is a Trustee of the Awesome Gloucester micro-grant foundation and is a Corporator of the Cape Ann Savings Bank. Honors include a Restoration Award from the Gloucester Historical Commission, and citizenship awards from the Rotary Club, Unitarian Universalist Church, and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce. An avid sailor and woodworker, he is board president, crew member, and ship’s carpenter on the 122-foot, 1926 schooner Adventure. Greg holds a Master’s Credential for vessels up to 200 tons. C.B. Her artistic and soulful reinterpretations of the selection of Dylan songs was an eye-opening moment in an already celebrated career. Eight years after milestone recording, Joan Osborne will release the stunning Dylanology Live on April 25th. The captivating recording finds the gifted vocalist performing in front of a live audience, with special guests Amy Helm, Robert Randolph and Jackie Greene. Songs include “Spanish Harlem Incident”, “Buckets Of Rain” “Masters Of War”, “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You” and “High Water (For Charley Patton)”. On Cape Ann, the name “Dogtown” conjures up many things — vast woodlands and trails; stone walls and cellar holes; tales of witches and widows; an ill-fated bullfighter; pastures, picnics and blueberries; a sea of rocks. Dogtown is all of these things and more. But first, it is a place where proud people once lived and worked, at the center of Gloucester, for nearly 150 years – until it became “Dogtown” and died out.  This tour will take you down the main roads of this early settlement, to meet some of the people, see where they lived and hear their stories. You will learn how Dogtown got its name, why people left, and how it has changed in the 200 years since the last house came down. You will hear about writers and artists who were inspired here, and reservoirs that were built here. Finally, you will see some of the inspirational word-boulders along the trails that are the lasting legacy of entrepreneur and philanthropist Roger Babson (1875-1967), and a symbol of the enduring nature of this special place called Dogtown.  This walking tour is three miles and will take approximately two hours. The route is over hiking trails that are generally easy, but uneven, with rocks and roots underfoot. Hiking attire and footwear advised; also, walking poles if you use them. Bring water and insect repellent. The tour will start at the main entrance to Dogtown, off Cherry Street. Meet at the parking lot a short distance up Dogtown Road, on the right. There is parking for a few cars in the lot; otherwise, park along the right side of the road, after the parking lot, or along Cherry St. Please arrive 10 minutes early. This is the first of three five-day summer workshops. This first week, learn the fundamentals of block design, tool and press usage, and relief printing techniques. Each workshop is limited to six participants. All skill levels are welcome. The cost is $475, which covers basic materials such as inks, newsprint, an initial supply of paper, and studio cutting tools. Buying a new set of tools is optional. A $100 deposit will secure your spot, with the remaining balance due at the first class. Workshops held JULY 7-11 and AUGUST 4-8 will focus on the color reduction woodcut technique. The cost is $475, limited to six participants, and again, we welcome all skill levels.

Her journey with the store began as a teenager working there, eventually leading to her becoming the owner in 1987. In 1989, the shop relocated from Broadway to its current picturesque setting at 9 Mt. Pleasant Street, offering a full view of the iconic Motif No. 1. Nestled in the heart of this quintessential New England town, Kim has always taken pride in making Sand Castles welcoming. From vibrant window boxes to eye-catching displays, she ensures the store is one of the first sights that greet visitors driving into downtown Rockport. Sand Castles features clothing for women, men, and children, along with unique gifts that reflect the charm and character of coastal living. Kim has always enjoyed the creative energy of retail and the opportunity to connect with customers. The shop remains open year-round, offering a warm and consistent presence even in the quieter winter months when many local businesses reduce hours. Kim and her husband Bob have built a rich life in Rockport, raising seven children and now enjoying their six grandchildren—with twin granddaughters on the way. She is deeply grateful to her loyal team, especially shop manager Traci Budrow, who has been with Sand Castles for 31 years. Kim insists on sharing any recognition with Traci, saying she couldn’t do what she does without her. Thanks to the support of her staff, Kim was able to return to school in 2008 to pursue a nursing degree and now works full-time as a nurse at O’Maley Middle School. In yet another chapter of her entrepreneurial journey, three years ago she opened Wharf Rat Trading Co., located next door to Sand Castles. Join the Greater Cape Ann Chamber in celebrating his win at Oak to Ember in Gloucester. About Joe ​Joseph “Joe” Ciolino has been living and working in the Gloucester community his entire life. A graduate of Gloucester High School, he continued his education at the Wentworth Institute in Boston, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.   Following 21 years at the Gloucester Building Center, holding the positions of Store Manager and a Corporate Vice President, he opened The Weathervane in 1991. He will be observing his 34th year as a sole proprietor in August of 2025. During this time, Joe has served on many local boards and councils, headed up the Gloucester Downtown Merchants Association, spearheaded the annual Sidewalk Bazar, and organizes the Downtown Holiday Parade. Joe is a past board member of the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, serving on its Retail Committee.    Joe has served on the Gloucester City Council for twelve years, the last two serving as Council President.   He was a past Cooperator for the Addison Gilbert Hospital and Sawyer Free Library. Until it’s North Shore merger, Joe volunteered with the American Heart Association and managed the Gloucester Chapter. He has been a member of the Gloucester Rotary Club since 1992, president in 2004, and the recipient of the Paul Harris Distinguished Service Award in 2017.
